Stanley (the screwdriver people, and other tools as well) make a set of 4
hook-tools that have the basic shapes covered.

Very handy addition to anybody's tool set.

If you don't have a 'hook tool', is there anything else you can use to get
the knobs off?

A hook tool is like a soldering or dental pick with a 90 degree (or slightly
less) angle on the end. If you pull your headlight switch to the on
position, you'll see an open spot on the back of the knob. The point of the
hook tool goes in there to pull the small spring clip away from the shaft so
the knob will slide right off. Usually a lot of fun (he says
sarcastically)!!

I need to change the turn signal indicator bulb in the dash but having a
problem removing the knobs for headlight and wipers.

I loosened the plastic cover held on with three screws at top of dash but
cannot completely remove it unless the knobs are removed.  I believe that
when the cover is off, I can get to the bulbs.

The Chilton manual says use a 'hook tool' to remove knobs.  Don't have a
clue as to what that tool is.

Can someone please offer advice on removing the knobs, or how better to get
to the bulbs.  The pickup is about 26 years old.
