Is the noise from the front or the rear?

How old are the pads/shoes?

When were the brakes last serviced?

Are the pads/shoes aftermarket?

What make, model, year and engine?

Sometimes I get a mid frequency brake noise when braking. It's not a
high pitched squeal, it sounds like a french horn. Seems to happen
usually at very slow speeds, when I'm braking lightly. I don't think
it's rust on the pads, because this can happen even after I've been
driving for a while. Anyone know what the cause is?
