theres no way around it you have to drop the front suspension just to
get to the oil pan

This job is so expensive because the oil pan is not easy to remove.
At one time I needed this as well.  My mechanic quoted me about 900
only
because he had a special rack (used with mercedes) that makes it easier
to drop the front suspension.

The oil pan gasket is a dreaded leak indeed.  It make be adviseable
if you do it to go ahead and have them replace the connecting rods(?)
while
he's down there.

because when i 1st start it the day i drive it. it smokes because it
drips on the headers and theres nothing i hate to see is a porsche with
smoke coming out from under the car. if you have had this porblem or
know of a easyer way to fix please let me know. thank you so much

and, why are  you worried about this leak?

hi every one i just got a 86 porsche 944 turbo the car is in great
shape in and out. but there is one thing wrong with it. the guy that
sold it too me told me it did have a oil leak in the oil pan gasket. so
i took it to to a place that only works on porsche's (euroworks) in
matthews n.c.. and to replace the oil pan gasket it would be $1.495.00
dollars. he said it would take 14 hours to do. it seems to be alot for
just a oil pan gasket. if someone has had this problem befour please
let me know if there is a easyer way to fix it.           thank all of
