Re: porsche 944 oil leak

aaah, what's the big deal about dropping the front suspension - I've done that to change motor mounts - hold car up on jack stands, loosen a couple of bolts and the cross member is free - $900 for this job seems quite extreme - you can buy a whole 944 for that price. Maybe you should look for a mechanic that actually wants to do the job? or who is familiar with these cars? Some stuff is a real pain, and $900 is about what I might expect to pay for a clutch R&R (labor), but the oil pan isn't as much work as a clutch - how much per hour are your mechanics charging youanyway?

This job is so expensive because the oil pan is not easy to remove. At one time I needed this as well. My mechanic quoted me about 900 only because he had a special rack (used with mercedes) that makes it easier to drop the front suspension.
The oil pan gasket is a dreaded leak indeed. It make be adviseable if you do it to go ahead and have them replace the connecting rods(?) while he's down there.

hi every one i just got a 86 porsche 944 turbo the car is in great shape in and out. but there is one thing wrong with it. the guy that sold it too me told me it did have a oil leak in the oil pan gasket. so i took it to to a place that only works on porsche's (euroworks) in matthews n.c.. and to replace the oil pan gasket it would be $1.495.00 dollars. he said it would take 14 hours to do. it seems to be alot for just a oil pan gasket. if someone has had this problem befour please let me know if there is a easyer way to fix it. thank all of you so much
