Funny you should mention that...
I go to shows all the time and see guys with these baloney sliced tailpipe
tips sticking out six inches from the back edge of the bumper.
I usually ask them if they 'built it or bought it'...
If I get the 'I bought it' answer I ask them if they have 'smile's or
frown's' on their shins....
After I get 'the look' I point out the folly of tailpipe tips sticking out
far enough to stab the crap out of your legs.
Last Saturday I had a guy come up to me at a cruise breakfast laughing and
he told me I was wise beyond my years.
After I gave him 'the look' (because I had not a clue as to what he was
talking about),
he pulled up his blue jean pants leg and showed me the scar with six
stitches on his shin.
He laughed and said "I was warned.... You told me!"
We both laughed and I went on, knowing my work here was done.....

So, there I was, wrestling with the cheap chinese antenna that came with
my 16 yo boy's 1968 Chevy pickup (short stepside 4x4), when just as I
gave up in frustration with an oath to go buy a brand new antenna and
speakers for the damn thing, I walk by the 62 Daytona convertible, and
the batter rear bumper reaches out and bangs my right knee something
fierce!  Now, that bumper was used hard earlier in it's life, and was
canted out almost at a right angle from the body.  I have had a   used
one of the same vintage sitting in my garage for about a year - so in a
fit of pain-induced adrenaline, I got out the "new" bumper and my
tools.  I took the old one off and took the bent bracket to the large
anvil in the back of the shop, where after 10 minutes or so of beating
it with a LARGE hammer, it gave up and straightened out. I put it and
the new bumper back on, and bolted up the bumper guards and license
plate lights.  Then I straightened out a couple of small dings along the
bottom of the bumper using my all around tool (crescent wrench) and bam,
baby!  Not quite even between left and right sides, but a hell of a lot
better than the old one!  The wife is happy, too.  Don't know why it
took me so long to do it - I'll blame it on PTSD.
