The AA are not 'insurers' of course - they are brokers. Like most brokers
they look at your specific details, address, car type, driving record, etc -
and then search for the cheapest quote from a 'bank' of insurers. The type
of claims service you get will depend more upon the insurer than the AA.
What I've learned over the years is that it is utterly pointless to ask
other people for recommendations on motor insurance. A company that has
provided a very competitive quote for driver 'A' may well provide an
appallingly expensive quote for driver 'B'. All you can do is shop around
each year and then compare two or three of the cheapest quotes you get to
see what's on offer. I agree that cheapest does not automatically mean
best - although it may well do.
