Engine Rust31 Mar 2005 18:27 GMT10
I just picked up a 1969 Firebird convertible and I have some rust
questions.  All of the components in the engine compartment have
surface rust (alternator, starter, master cylinder...).  What is the
best way to remove it and then what do you do?  Paint?

I have a 53 Dodge Panel truck which is a 6 volt, positive ground system.

ground parts (saving the old ones of course) but what the hell do I do with
the starter?
MGB soft top28 Mar 2005 20:58 GMT1
My wife has an MGB soft top 1979, 68K miles from new, parked in our
garage. It hasn't moved for ten years. Damp is causing rust to appear
around all the body panels and I think we should pass it on to someone
who would give it the care it deserves. I would like to know what sort

I am working on the brake system to a 1954 Ford F-100 and am sandblasting
the last 50 years of rust and gunk away.  I have the whole brake plate and
assembly off the suspension and laying on my work bench. Anyway, the
question is, once cleaned, is there a good all-purpose, one coat ...

Hi all.  I think I will finally get around to putting my three-deuce
Offy manifold on my '50 Ford flathead, but I have been told that three
Strombergs are too much carburetion for a stock 239 cubic inches.
Anybody got thoughts on how best to seal off the middle carb?  I like

What is this panel called?11 Mar 2005 01:35 GMT2
On cars of the 1920s and early '30s, there is a long panel a few inches
high, underneath the door(s) and just above the running board, running the
length of the body from front fender to rear fender. It was usually painted
the same color as the fenders.
Early 30's or 40's Chrysler or Ford Axle(?) and spindle dust caps (threaded)10 Mar 2005 23:57 GMT10
I have a utility trailer that was built using a very old I-beam style

caps for the ends of the spindles. The issue is that the hubs have
threaded bores (1.98"?) and seem to be deeper than most over the
