I have just currently puchesed a vq Statesman and noticed today that
the oil in the engine was bone dry, after filling it up i drove it and
went to service station to check a few things and noticed the oil had
been spraying out from dip stick or around that area and was splatted

can anyone tell me the technical reason that pre 1996 cars can use most
oil but later must use special oil
the cheaper api grade supermarket oils say suitable for pre 1996 so what
changed in later engines that makes them unsuitable

Did some googling when I heard about adding Acetone to either Petrol or
Diesel to inc. fuel economy.
Seems more "pro" info than negative.  And the "pro" reasoning seems to
be more realistic than a Magnetic Fuel Thingo (Brocky type of thing) :-)
