I recently suffered what I initially thought was a head gasket failure on my M20 engined 525i SE. I'd been mysteriously losing coolant for several weeks beforehand, when during a long journey the engine started misfiring during acceleration and spectacular plumes of steam starting ...

I'm looking at purchasing a second hand E39 model (not the latest E60 incarnation) diesel. The 530 is much publicised as being the "best" diesel engine on the market. However, before I commit myself to a 530, I do wonder whether I should

My wife and I test drove a very nice `98 740iL. We both liked the car very much and it is in very good cosmetic condition. However, we both have concerns about paying $15k for a used car with 91,000 miles on it. I know these cars aren't cheap new and suspect they are expensive

I have a 2000 323 convertible (my first BMW) with just under 23k miles. I love the car, the ride, the handling, everything about it, except that I have had a series of maintence problemas and repairs since I purchased the car new in May 2000. In addition to routine maintenence, ...

| Brake work on 740 - questions | 01 Mar 2004 16:10 GMT | 12 |
The computer on my 1998 740i is telling me to check the brake pads. The dealer, without seeing the car, tells me that the work will be something like $800. An independent BMW mechanic is telling me $100-150 for the rear pads and $150-200 for the front. What's the story here? Does ...
