Hello! I was just wondering if any of you guys had this same problem... I
have an 1999 E39 520i and this is the second time this malfunction
happens: one of the 6 cilinder coils that controls the variable valve
timming is "dead"... the engine struggles to work under 2000 RPM. And on

E30 service indicator light small circuit board.07 Dec 2004 11:39 GMT5
Hey. My '88 318i is missing the small board with the LEDs for the
service indicator display, it still has the larger board that takes up
the length of the instrument cluster. Does anyone have photos of this
with enough detail to make a cheap replacement?
M50 broken timing chain woes07 Dec 2004 11:34 GMT9
My techie's 93 525iX ground to a halt earlier today. Starter spins the
engine really fast and our first guess is a broken timing chain, had
that backed up by my mate's BMW independent mechanic.
I've never heard of an M50 breaking a chain before, it's only done 117k

re: Traffic Ticket in Toronto07 Dec 2004 03:09 GMT17
Just received a ticket over the weekend for failing to stop (a rolling stop)
at a stop sign. Will be pleading not guilty and fighting the ticket in
traffic court. Question, has anyone ever used X-Copper as a service? Is it
worth the $300 CDN? Any idea if this is a charge that is ...

Cold weather06 Dec 2004 23:33 GMT8
We recently had a few cold mornings near freezing in Southern California.
Since my car is garaged, the temp. registered 50F when I got in.  As I drove
a few blocks, it fell to 34-36F.  When it fell through 37, a warning light
and bell came on to tell me it was cold outside.  Is this ...
Auto tranny noise06 Dec 2004 22:42 GMT3
My 98 740iL recently developed a rattling noise when the car is put in
either drive or reverse.  When in park or neutral, it is quiet.  I'm
familiar with manual transmissions.  Usually on those it would be the throw
out bearing in the clutch assembly that would cause this type of ...
Idling speed BMW 51806 Dec 2004 17:57 GMT1
I had a problem with very erratic idling speeds on my BMW 518. Idling
speeds would surge up and down from about 1200 to 1600 for no apparent
reason and the engine also had a tendency to cut out. With a little
help from some people here and an expert we came to the conclusion
replaced thermostat - still cold06 Dec 2004 12:42 GMT5
I replaced the thermostat on my 1990 520i m20, (and flushed & changed the
coolant while I was at it) because the temp. guage was remaining in the blue
zone. Now it hits the 1/4 mark & stays there, unless I'm sitting in traffic
in which case it may go up between 1/4 & 1/2. It also ...

Time to closed loop temp too long? (E36 328i)05 Dec 2004 23:58 GMT8
I've started getting the "check engine" light on my '96 E36 328i, and
using a Peake diagnostic took, I've discovered that the "Time to
closed loop temperature is too long". My best guess is that the car
isn't warming up quickly enough, so I've let it idle a bit longer on
