Strange Acceleration / Performance behaviour - E46 '99 318 Saloon06 Jun 2006 19:35 GMT11
It would be great if someone could advise the potential cause of the
below behavior.
The engine when still cold gives a nice acceleration feeling when
changing from 1st to 2nd gear at 1500rpm. The MPG indicator stays above 20.
1990 BMW 325is - "classic" head gasket leak...06 Jun 2006 17:47 GMT7
I have what one technician called a "classic" head gasket leak.
It is on the exhaust side, around cylinders 4 and 5.  It gets hot around
there I guess.
It may be an oil leak there is very common on this model.
Performance Chips06 Jun 2006 12:33 GMT12
I have been looking at performance chips promising more horsepower and
better fuel economy. Prices range from $4 to over $400. Many are no-name
items sold on e-bay and some are well know names like Conforti and Dinan.
Does anyone have any first hand experience with these chips. ...
Which Auto transmission fluid?06 Jun 2006 12:12 GMT3
1999 E36 323i Sport Auto Touring (UK model).
I know it's supposedly filled with "Lifetime" fluid, but as filters are
available I think I'll change it while the trans is still sound.
According to TIS/ETK, the transmission is an A5S 310Z-OJ and the fluid is
Fuel conversion06 Jun 2006 08:58 GMT10
Firstly, I'm own an 840 and really love the car.
However, it's not particularly economical on fuel.  Whilst I certainly
don't like paying the rather high fuel prices here in the UK, I'm
getting rather concerned about the effect my car (and every other car
Starter shorted out - could this cause my Fuel injectors to go bad????06 Jun 2006 02:32 GMT4
I have a 90 325is.  It has 232,000 miles on it.
The starter went bad.  I replaced it.
Immediately after the fix, I noticed poor driveability, especially while the
engine was warming up.  It idles poorly and drinks a lot of gas.

Does any know how to change the center brake light ('Rear lamp/side
marker lamps')on a 2002 530I?
Are Radar Detectors Useless?05 Jun 2006 17:28 GMT48
I've gotten 4 tickets in the last 6 months.  Luckily I'm in Missouri
where your lawyer buddy "fixes" them.  I've always thought radar
detectors were left over from the 70's and all the different bands and
instant on stuff cops use makes them ineffective.  But I'm getting
99' 323i Remote Locking not working05 Jun 2006 15:40 GMT5
Well... my car was in a garage for a week while getting hail damage
repaired.  Now the remote is not working....
I can make all doors lock with key in the driver side door...
Any clues?
Z3 Convertable Roof mechanism knocking05 Jun 2006 10:12 GMT2
Hope someone can help!!!
I have a Z3 convertable and when the roof is closed and due to the car
flexing slighly under normal movement (as convertables do) the
mechanism which pulls the roof in to place has a worn bolt which causes
This is a really stupid question...05 Jun 2006 09:27 GMT4
But I have to know.  Does my 2006 330i have an alarm?  I assumed it
didn't as no beeps or anything when locked with the remote, but
yesterday I locked it with the key and heard a double beep.  I didn't
really process it until just now and it could have just been another

E36 Shifter04 Jun 2006 20:03 GMT3
Question on an E36 M3 shifter.  There's a spring-loaded catch that you
push in to shift to 5th gear.  This catch keeps the shifter centered in
the cage.
Problem - sometimes it sticks open, meaning that the shifter sits over
winter storage and seized brakes04 Jun 2006 15:46 GMT3
Stored a 325i over the winter, took care to run the engine and drive the car
every couple of weeks to keep the battery in good condition and ensure
brakes wouldn't seize.  Last week tried to bring car out of garage and found
the brakes seized (and had driven the car the week ...
