My BMW garage tells me my rear O/S wishbone needs replacing - too much freeplay. The car has done 56k miles. When do these things normally need replacing? The car is driven carefully etc. Can something cause thus to occur?

I can't find in my Bentley a procedure for changing the Rear Carrier Mounts. Maybe I've overlooked it. I did find online, however, a special tool (33 31 1 129 760) that allows changing these mounts without removing the rear axle. My question is: Am I crazy to attempt changing ...
