I was thinking of getting an mp3 player to hook up to my car before but I got to wondering, are there any MP3 players out there designed solely for automobile use? I couldnt find anything on crutchfield, bestbuy or circuit city .com and don't know where else to look.

I'm planning on installing a couple of amps to my F-150, but thought that I'd come to you guys for a little advice before just grabbing something off the shelf. I'll also be replacing the stock speakers in the doors and rear of the

| Conversation Topic: Frequency Ranges | 25 Feb 2005 02:06 GMT | 2 |
After reading several posts over the last year or so I still am a bit confused as to what frequencies should be considered sub-bass, mid-bass, midrange, and high frequencies. I thought it would be interesting to get some opinions from everyone into one post. I have

| Do I need a new head unit? Volume problems... | 24 Feb 2005 05:32 GMT | 4 |
I have a factory stereo in my Ford ranger and recently the volume has started going up and down on it's own. When the volume knob is turned 3/4 or higher, the problem rarely happens, but at 1/4-1/2 volume the problem is almost constant. Is the head unit hosed?

| Capacitor Advice | 24 Feb 2005 05:25 GMT | 2 |
Since I'm having trouble finding someone in the area to upgrade my alternator I have been looking at caps on eBay as a temporary band-aid. I've noticed some inexpensive caps with high farad claims and was wondering if anyone here has had experience with some of the lower cost

| Standalone Audio System?? | 24 Feb 2005 01:09 GMT | 8 |
First, I'm pretty stereo ignorant. I have a 66 Pontiac Lemans which don't want to cut the dash in. I would like to disconnect the AM Radi in it (leave it in place though), and build a standalone system usin one of those portable radio/downloadable devices that everyone jog

| Notebook with lighted KB to work in the dark? | 23 Feb 2005 21:01 GMT | 1 |
Which ones? I'd like a list if at all possible - TIA. Ideally, passive luminescent keycaps would be ideal vesus an actively lighted KB which draws limited power and would probably be too bright.

| MP3 - Part II - CBR vs VBR | 23 Feb 2005 05:24 GMT | 2 |
Obviously Variable Bit Rate is more efficient than Constant Bit Rate. Anybody argue that "I'd NEVER use VBR?"

| Probably a stupid EQ question... | 23 Feb 2005 05:14 GMT | 9 |
I have a question regarding Equalizers. I am confused as to what the range of frequencies to be affected would be, even if just one "band" was raised or lowered. For example, lets take a 7-band EQ for explanatory purposes.

| Kenwood KDC-CMP59FM CD Changer | 23 Feb 2005 05:04 GMT | 1 |
Any opinions on the quality / reliability of this 10 CD MP3 capable changer? Toyota doesn't sell an MP3 capable stereo so a dealer has offered to install this unit so the car I'm looking at can play MP3s. I can't find any reviews on the changer and few reviews on any changer. I ...

| Kenwood KDC-X859 Problems | 23 Feb 2005 04:25 GMT | 1 |
This one is weird, but I'm hoping somebody will know the answer. My X859 seems to be missing all the RDS, PTY and TI functions. Holding down PTY does nothing (should bring up a menu), also in the setup menu, there should be an option to turn on the TI on, but it skips over that ...

| OPINIONS: Just How Good Are MP3's? | 23 Feb 2005 04:21 GMT | 26 |
Like many of you, over the past few years I have switched from listening to CD's to now almost exclusively listening to MP3's. All my MP3's have a sampling rate of 128 or higher, and generally speaking I am pleased with the sound quality.
