Should the oil change interval be based on run time and not miles?
Most recommend changing oil every xxx miles but they also quote a interval
of xx months.  Most seem to ignore the xx months.  Some folks only drive
4-5k per year.

My girlfriend blew the head gasket on her 1997 Chevy S-10 (2.2 engine,

I have a 97 probe gt with a stuck egr valve, and the mechanic wants 1800 to
replace it bc it is attached to the throttle body. Is there anything I can
do to avoid replacing it ? Such as spraying a cleaner or solvent in the
intake ? Currently the car runs poorly and stalls at traffic ...
