diagnostic scanners31 Dec 2004 23:40 GMT3
Am taking a vehicle electronic course and am interested in purchasing a
diagnostic scan tool. Aside from price, what might one be looking for
in purchasing their first scanner as opposed to the professional that
uses it to make a living. Any recommendations would be appreciated. -

I have a 96 Sentra with a 1.6 liter engine.   I had the trouble code
show up on the dash today as I was working on an overheating problem.
I wanted to determine what the trouble code was by accessing the ECM
and having the codes show on the indicator lamp.   I checked my shop

My 1979 GMC w 250-6 has a cracked head. It seems its a rare one now, the head

advice for broken mounting stud for gas tank.31 Dec 2004 20:30 GMT4
I have an old, rusted 89 aries with unibody construction. The car is
dead because there is no fule pressure. I suspect the fuel pump. To get
to the fule pump, I had to drop the tank which means I had to undo the
nuts holding the gas tank mounting straps.

to a cheap propane torch. will this do any good? i was thinking that
brakes31 Dec 2004 16:34 GMT2
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Im getting ready to put new brake pads on a car but it has disc breaks on
both fron and rear wheels.  Not used to that.  Always had drums on the back.
Not sure what to do with rear discs and the e-brake on rear disc beraks.

Timing Gear Problem31 Dec 2004 14:00 GMT2
I have a 97 F-150 with a 4.2L V-6, and about a year ago I had to have
the engine rebuilt. ( I have subsequently been told by various people
that the shop that did my overhaul has a reputation for shoddy work.)
Anyhow, there was a 20,000 mile warranty and after about 25,000 miles

A couple of weeks ago, I posted the below, and got a couple of suggestions.
I put the original spark plug back in cylinder 1, checked under the hood in
the dark, disconnected the battery cable so the computer would re-learn the

1990 Pontiac Grand Prix No Hi-beam problem31 Dec 2004 03:35 GMT4
The hi-beams on my son's car have quit working and I am puzzled.
With the ignition switch on and the headlights on, the hi-beams will
not come on. However, with the ignition off and headlights off, you
can pull on the switch and the hi-beams will come on.
Change oil ever *10,000* miles on my 2001 Audi A6???31 Dec 2004 03:06 GMT15
Just bought this beautiful used Audi A6.  I love it!!!
I was surprised to read in the manual, though, that they recommend oil
changes every 10,000 miles.  I am so used to doing it every 3000 miles.
Curious what people's thoughts are.
