Big gas mileage difference btw city and highway01 Aug 2005 00:53 GMT6
The EPA's fuel economy for 2001 Impala base is 20/30MPG. My one can get over
30 when cruising on highways. But in city driving, it has been below 17
since I acquired it a year ago. The car runs basically ok, just recently
developed a kind of scraping noise upon acceleration, and ...

This problem has been lingering for almost 9 months now and nobody seems
to know the answer, or they just tell me "its a 20 year old car, what do
you expect?"

Clicking sound from clutch pedal when depressed a little31 Jul 2005 20:14 GMT4
I have a Mazda 626 '91 with manual transmission. Today the clutch
pedal started clicking when engaged/disengaged.
The source of the sound seems to be rather close to the pedal itself,
although it is rather hard to pinpoint exactly.
Grease spot on new brake pad31 Jul 2005 19:21 GMT7
A friend was helping me with my front disc brakes when he accidently
dropped one of the pads on the ground (short fall onto dirt driveway).
Unfortunately, he quickly picked it up without being very careful about
where he put his fingers.  As a result, there's one-third to one-half
99 Lumina Power Window31 Jul 2005 14:56 GMT1
Can anyone tell me how to remove the power window mechanism from the front
doors? My intentions are to gain access to the inside of the doors so I can
add sound deadening. I've got the inside door panel off and am ready to do
this but I don't want to screw anything up. Any tips ...
Stalls while setting timing31 Jul 2005 14:49 GMT1
While I'm trying to set the timing and I'm turning the distributor and every
thing is fine at about 1000 RPM & 10 BTDC.
I turn the distributor clockwise just a hair more, and the rpms drop and the
engine stumble and stalls. Timing for this vehicle is supposed to be 4 ATDC
Lead free battery terminals or Lead  terminals31 Jul 2005 14:29 GMT5
Our Honda OEM battery terminals are aging. We'd like to
switch to OEM Lead free battery terminals or solid lead
battery terminals. Which are most reliable?
Thanks

Oil filter for 1976 Olds 455?31 Jul 2005 13:02 GMT4
I have an Olds 455 built by Berkeley marine that is in my 1976 Keaton

How do I lube a sleeve bearing and rubber seal?31 Jul 2005 09:25 GMT7
Please consider this to be a question on general mechanical technique,
hopefully applicable to cars.
I need to lubricate a sleeve bearing and a rubber seal on a washing
machine I am repairing.

Cranking engine with coil disconnected30 Jul 2005 23:01 GMT12
I have a little car maintenance book that suggests turning over the
engine (for about 30 seconds) with the spark coil disconnected right
after changing the oil.  The idea is to make sure the oil filter is
soaked/full, and the oil is flowing, before allowing the engine to turn
car shakes/wobbles when driving30 Jul 2005 21:30 GMT6
Question for you all. My truck shakes while driving. It actually
feels more like a wobble.. which is worst below 50 mph. It almost feels

vehicle). The steering wheel turns slight left and then right with the

Super charged vs. standard engine?30 Jul 2005 15:11 GMT21
I am considering a Mini-Cooper and wondering what the pros and cons are
regarding these two engine types. Of course I know the fundamental things,
like lower gas mileage, more horse power with the super charge engine. What
about maintenance, engine life, repairs, etc.,. I don't have ...
