battery - alternator charging questions27 Sep 2005 14:54 GMT9
Hello.  I suspect my alternator is not charging my battery.  I haven't used
this car since April of this year so the battery had run down to 2 V (I
measured it with a volt meter).  The battery had been connected to the car.
I got it charged about a week ago at a car repair place.  ...
starter current draw?27 Sep 2005 14:35 GMT13
Copy of post to alt.autos.studebaker - car in question is a '55
Commander coupe with '63 model 289/automatic.  otherwise mostly stock.
I did get some good responses there but they all either point to a bad
starter or a too-small battery, anything else I should check?  Is there
Overheating and slight rumble when driving over 55mph27 Sep 2005 14:30 GMT23
I just purchased a 1995 Ford E250 cargo van with 4.9L I6 and 3-speed auto.
Everything seems to run fine and all fluid levels are up where they should
be. No fluid is leaking.  Tranny fluid is red, radiator fluid is green, oil
is still somewhat clear. Prior to purchasing this ...
Electric window parts availability27 Sep 2005 04:04 GMT4
Vehicle: 1989 Ford F250 with electric windows.
The plastic worm gear has decided to break into many pieces. Needles to say,
the window is a bit reluctant to go up and down.
Are these parts dealer  only, or do I stand a chance at a real autoparts

Removing city sticker - what I did27 Sep 2005 02:48 GMT1
Thanks for all the fine ideas! Here's what I finally did:
I seem to recall from last time I removed a sticker by scraping it off
with a razor that the adhesive remaining on the windshield was water
soluble.  So I sprayed the back of the current sticker with Windex
Problem: Air conditioner starts working while its switch is off26 Sep 2005 21:51 GMT1
I've just bought a secondhand 2000 Mazda 626 Lx in very good
condition except for one odd problem: when I try to select the
Defroster Air Flow mode (air towards the windshield) the air
conditioner starts working by it-self, even if it's switch is off.

Really Frustrated: Cannot Access PS Pump Bolt26 Sep 2005 09:02 GMT7
Hi everyone, I am trying to get my belt tensioner off for my '91 Chevy
Cavalier 2.2 L. The only thing is I am having trouble getting one last bolt
off that holds the power steering pump, which you have to remove to remove
the tensioner. It is in the back of the pump, on the ...

We just purchased a 1992 Explorer XLT 4WD in great shape but with
178,000 miles on it.. Its a 5 speed stick with a new clutch. This SUV

Springs for a 1990 Protege26 Sep 2005 06:02 GMT3
I just bought a 1990 Protege (not 4WD) and saw that the rear suspension
was pretty worn. We didn't see just how bad it was until we go the
struts off... both of the springs are very worn and one is broken. I was
able to buy struts without any problem, but I can't find springs to ...

Anyone able to pass on some tips? I have a MX 6 that I'd like to put away
for a few years. What are the must do's? Thanks.
Is Cadillac Eldorado's Alternator A Crappy Design?  Voltage Wanders26 Sep 2005 03:01 GMT10
I have a 1989 Cadillac Eldorado that has alternator problems
(presumably).  The output terminal voltage wanders all around,
tripping the overvoltage sensor quite often.  I figured either the
regulator or other parts of the alternator were bad, so I replaced the
Manifold Pressure Gauge Helpful As Well As Tach25 Sep 2005 16:43 GMT4
When monitoring engine performance while towing, going up hills, et
al, I find that especially on automatic trans cars, a manifold pressure
gauge along with the tach is helpful. But, you cannot find automotive
aftermarket MAP gauges. And aircraft ones, once readily available
Adjust tranny modulator?25 Sep 2005 15:47 GMT4
I have an old Chevy pickup with 454 engine and 3 speed THM400.
I just put a new tranny modulator in it as old one leaked and allowed
tranny fluid to get past diaphragm.
New one is Fram FM2321, with green stripe, same as my old one.  It is
