puzzling recurring electrical problem13 Oct 2005 00:13 GMT4
1998 Voyager, 120,000 miles, good shape overall, no past accidents. This
past summer it has developed an annoying problem which neither I nor the
local Chrysler dealer can figure out. Periodically the instrument cluster
goes blank. Sometimes the "check engine soon" light comes on ...
How good are the windshield repair places?12 Oct 2005 15:02 GMT2
New car has some stone hits, about the size of a quarter (i.e. chip and
small cracks radiating from them).  I see several windshield repair places
in the phonebook, some mobile, and was wondering if they really do a good
job and if the repair is less visible.
No thermostat in 96 Subaru Outback Wagon12 Oct 2005 03:49 GMT4
I have had overheating problems with my 96 Subaru Outback Wagon with
178,000 miles.  When the radiator was changed and unbeknowst to me the
thermostat was not installed.  Note that I had added "Water-Wetter" and
Subaru's radiator conditioner to the radiator.  It has been running

Help!!  Car blows fuses.  Can I use a slow blow fuse???11 Oct 2005 21:29 GMT9
My '94 Bonneville has blown the fuse to the air pump for the air
shocks several dozen times over the last 8 years.  Two dealers, a
different pump, and and $800 later it still blows fuses.
The only component on the fuse is the pump and the Chevy dealer
Transmission Fluid Drip11 Oct 2005 17:32 GMT7
Wondering how long it usually takes for the front seal to let loose once it
starts dripping and if anyone has good results with the seal softeners?
Little more info:  1996 Chevy 1/5 ton with 5.7 liter motor and 145K miles.
We just started noticing a drip on the driveway.  I looked ...
Gas Pump Question11 Oct 2005 17:13 GMT8
How do gas station pumps (the ones with three or four grades of gas
dispensed from one pump and credit card) handle taking fuel from more
than one dispenser? If someone puts their credit card in and pumps some
gas, but prior to hanging the nozzle up, someone else pumps a few
ATF Shelf Life?10 Oct 2005 20:56 GMT4
Would unopened 3 year old bottles of Mobil brand Dexron/Mercon
automatic transmission fluid be OK to use for my next change?
International  466 diesel no start no cdes10 Oct 2005 19:40 GMT2
I might be a little off topic "autos", but I am stumped by a 2002 Intl, 4700
truck with a 466E engine. The self diagnostic shows no codes. A mech drove
it in, changed the oil and changed the fuel filter. It is well primed, But
it cranks and will not start. The miles are 170K.
Low tech OHV engines versus DOHC/VVT/FSI/Turbo/4-valve...10 Oct 2005 17:12 GMT20
This is a subject I have yet to understand. It seems all reviewers dog
overhead valve engine designs because they are "low tech and crude", or
whatever they say. But are they really worse? Compare, for instance, the
following engines:
wrist pin lubrication10 Oct 2005 17:01 GMT13
How do modern auto engines lubricate the wrist pins?  I seem to recall
that many years ago the wrist pins got lubrticated by the sloshing
effect as the fast-moving crankshaft dipped into the oil pool near the
bottom of the oil pan.  Soemone recently told me that modern engines
Electrical question - reversing lights10 Oct 2005 12:58 GMT3
I changed my gearbox and would like to hook up my reversing lights.
However there are 11 available prongs on the loom plugs that went
into the old gearbox and I don't know which two to hook up to the
new reversing toggle.

1981 Ford Fairmont  C4 Auto Transmission.10 Oct 2005 03:27 GMT2
1981 Ford Fairmont 6cyl auto transmission.
It is a C4 auto transmission.
I started my vehicle, put it into reverse
gear, there was a noise like a snap and that was it.
Repair Fraud?09 Oct 2005 23:26 GMT65
Recently I went for a car service and the mechanic replaced CV Shaft
and Front Engine Mount for my 95 Camry.  He charged $200 and $300 for
parts respectively.  And the CV shaft is a remanufactured part. When I
verified the prices on NAPA website they are charging far less. For
