Theoretical auto engine thermodynamics question12 Nov 2005 16:57 GMT10
While thinking about EGR it occurred to me to wonder about
the way IC engines work. I assume that fuel and air burn,
the heat released heats up the components of air not
involved in combustion, namely N2, causing them to expand
Waste Spark System Without CPU12 Nov 2005 14:51 GMT2
By using two or three electronic pickups and ignition boxes and double
ended coils from motorcycles or late model cars, wouldn't it be
possible to build a waste-spark system for most older four and six
cylinder engines and get rid of the distributor cap, rotor and so
help!! thank you12 Nov 2005 13:56 GMT4
The BR Standard steam locomotives were an effort to standardize
locomotives from the motley collection from older locos. Unfortunately
due to the controversial dieselisation of British Railways, they only
spent between 7 and 17 years working on the railways. Many were

Hissing at acceleration - exhaust leak?11 Nov 2005 22:27 GMT3
My Chev Impala 2001 base (57K) has been making hissing noise at
acceleration. The noise came into the cabin from front somewhere down under
the hood. Got it checked by dealers/mechanics for 3 times. They all say "no
problem." or "normal". I know they must have checked cat convert ...
windsheild wiper motor/switch issue11 Nov 2005 21:51 GMT1
Help please. My windshied wipers only work some of the time.  Sometimes I
have to turn them on then into fast mode, or intermittant mode to get them
to even swipe once.  Sometimes they work for 30 seconds then stop, then
start up after a bit, or when switching speeds.  Auto repair ...
Alternate fuels in the UK11 Nov 2005 20:36 GMT21
Had lunch today with some Brits. They were saying gasoline, or
"petrol" as they call it, is like $& (US) per US gallon there now. (As
I write this I see regular at $1.99 out my Midwest boring hick town
window.) I know propane is popular there, but wouldn't industrial

Need to replace radiator in 91 Integra 5 spd.

How to tell which one to get?
reading codes...11 Nov 2005 15:22 GMT7
On my chev truck, I used to read the codes by using a paper clip to ground
one of the leads in the plug and counting the various blinking lights on the
dash, then cross referencing in a manual.  Does that sort of thing still
work?
Ignition voltage requirements11 Nov 2005 12:58 GMT3
I've recently had a misfire on my car (Saab 900 2.0) that turned out to
be the coil gone bad (resistances were way out) and it's now fixed.
However, I want to understand the underlying reasons, as I can't quite
make the connections in my head.
Chrysler LHS Cooling Fans10 Nov 2005 23:06 GMT2
My 1997 Chrysler LHS 3.5 Liter radiator cooling fans cut in too late and cut
out too soon.  In idle, the guage creeps to middle of scale or higher. I've
checked all connections indicated in my FSM and also ran fans manually (they
both work in both speeds).  Relays are OK.

What would cause this when applying the brakes slowig down? It is a
