Heater core -Al or Cu?23 Jan 2006 17:32 GMT6
Aluminum or copper? I know copper is a better conductor of heat, and
hence high end computer processor heatsinks use copper, but is there any
real difference with automobile heater cores? Does one oxidize faster
than the other?
I have a babbling brook in my car23 Jan 2006 17:23 GMT5
When I accelerate from a stop in my wife's 2001 Mitsubishi Montero
Sport, it sounds like a babbling brook under the dash (as opposed to
the babbling idiot behind the wheel).  It doesn't sound like water
sloshing but more like steadily running water.  It reminds me of the

Keyless entry for Corolla CE?23 Jan 2006 07:46 GMT1
Anyone know if remote keyless entry is a practical after-market add-on
for a Corolla CE?
I've been looking at a number of used Corolla's, mostly '05's.  Most are
CE's with power door locks.  However, getting factory keyless entry means

Hello, I have 1992 Mazda Protégé with 140,000km (88k miles). Haven't yet
replaced timing belt nor automatic transmission fluid.
Car has run fine, smoothly and quietly. Although it began shaming at stops

I like everything about the coach part but I don't know anything about the
engine in it.
Harbor Freight Code Reader22 Jan 2006 21:05 GMT2
Anyone have any experience with these things? They're about $40 but
that's too much if they don't give good/accurate readings.
Just wondering if this is a "get what you pay for" deal!
Inboard brakes - Curiosity22 Jan 2006 19:17 GMT10
Many years ago, some high bucks cars (Jaguar, I believe was one of them),
developed inboard disc brakes for their IRS rear axles.   These brakes,
IIRC,
were mounted to either side of the banjo housing.

on
a 95 intrepid.
Thanks,
$1.99 brake calipers???22 Jan 2006 03:15 GMT3
Shopping for rebuilt rear brake calipers for my 94 Volvo.  There seem
to be plenty available, but some of the prices seem too low to
believe, such as this from Autozone:

MT-2500 Help please..22 Jan 2006 01:28 GMT1
Hello all.. I am a shadetree mechanic and not a bad one. I have several
vehicles and my relatives plus friends also have vehicles. They are
always asking me to 'fix' theirs when something goes wrong. Luckily
none are very late models so I still can try to work on them. To make
Oil Pressure Gauge and Engine death22 Jan 2006 01:11 GMT22
Trying to get some lessons learned from my first car 'death.'
To make it short, the oil gauge started behaving curiously to me
probably last year this time.  But since the oil light didnt come on,
and the pressure seemed high enough, nothing seemed wrong.  This turned
where to get Carter AFB parts?21 Jan 2006 21:47 GMT27
I have a booklet that was faxed from Federal-Mogul regarding tuning of
an AFB carburetor; it includes lots of helpful part numbers for things
like a replacement set of linkages and such like.  The problem is that
Carter seems to have pretty much closed up shop except for selling ...
