axle seal replacement on a 90 K1500 - tips?25 May 2006 19:43 GMT5
My "new" truck is my father-in-law's old truck - a 90 Chevy 1500 4x4.
It's a good truck - 350, 5 speed, long box, no A/C and no carpet.  'twas
a farm truck... so it's seeing "light duty" now going to the dump and
Home Depot and hauling car parts around.
Why does an EFI engine need a throttle?25 May 2006 16:21 GMT27
Don't flame me, I'm just a programmer, not a chemist or a
thermodynamicist. Why not just pull 14.7 psi ambient into the
cylinders, then squirt proportional to throttle position, like a diesel
with a spark plug??
Vortec Cyclone25 May 2006 06:24 GMT7
I've been seeing products like this for a while now, claiming
better gas mileage and performance.  Funny they claim 0%~35% or
something improvement.  I guess that protects them when there is a zero
percent improvement.  But...
A new low for mfgr's. No AT dipstick.25 May 2006 02:00 GMT8
Can someone please clue me in as to the reasoning behind the vanishing
automatic transmission dipstick? My son's 2001 Malibu doesn't have one
and I've discovered many manufacturers are the same way.
The procedure for checking fluid level after a change seems overly
R/R valve seal questions. 93 Saturn24 May 2006 23:47 GMT5
When I put air pressure into the cyl. I hear air leaking somewhere into
the intake manifold. I've pulled both exh. and intake cams, so I know
the valves are all closed. I can't detect their air coming through any
of the seals... is that normal???

How to Read Ammeter?24 May 2006 20:14 GMT18
OK, this is a question about my boat, but since it has a 350 V-8, I
figure you folks could help me out. (Besides, rec.boats is all chewed
up with politics, and they all use outboard engines anyway! ;-))
This boat has two 12V car-type batteries and I ran it today (it hasn't

What oil????24 May 2006 19:00 GMT7
Just bought my wife a 03 Accord ex V6 with 40k and like new condition.
The dealer changed the oil to Mobil 1 5/30.  On reading the owners
naual I find that Honda states to use only 5/20 oil.  Being the follow
the book type I called the Honda dealer and was told to use only 5/20
Explorer Still Running Hot24 May 2006 18:31 GMT8
My '91 Ford Explorer was still running a bit hot today after I changed
the thermostat.
It has that stupid idiot indicator on it from "C" (cold) to "H" (hot)
and everything in between "NORMAL".
Can a cell phone set off a car alarm?24 May 2006 18:18 GMT8
We have a 2004 Toyota with a factory installed car alarm.  The alarm
goes off randomly.  Sometimes a few times a day, some days not at all.
No physical disturbance is setting it off (it does it even sitting in
our closed garage).  However, we noticed that it seems to happen when
Electrical question regarding starting system24 May 2006 16:05 GMT6
Hello...
I was wondering if anybody can help me out by explaining what voltage
readings I should expect to see on a working starting system (starter,
battery, etc.).
E85 Conversion24 May 2006 14:07 GMT11
What's the difference between an E10 (10% ethanol) cabable engine and
one that will run on E85?
It would seem that the ethanol compatibility issues (rubber seals, etc.)
have been solved in a vehicle that can run on E10. So, is it just a
WEIRD A/C-related noise.. can you identify it?24 May 2006 12:59 GMT4
I have a 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 truck, a regular cab LWB with the 4.7 V8.
Here's what's happening:
If the truck's not moving, e.g. sitting at a red light or in a parking
space, and I turn on the A/C, then when I start moving or put it in
