Safari, '94: Electrical failure09 Jan 2007 23:55 GMT1
My son started the van yesterday morning and while giving the engine a
moment to settle put on his seat belt and turned on the headlights. As
soon as the lights went on the engine died.
Now, we have the following symptoms:
better mileage with higher octane?09 Jan 2007 21:48 GMT135
is there any truth to the statement that using a higher octane gasoline will result in
better gas mileage? I understand that it may have other beneficial properties ie.
anti-knock, acceleration, etc..
how would one calculate such a statement?
Tune up: Dealer or independent?09 Jan 2007 21:26 GMT11
1987 TownCar.  For a routine basic tune-up which is better dealer or
independent?  Do both use the same quality computer diagnostic equipment
etc?
How reliable are the diagnostic computers?

Getting fuel line compression fittings leak free09 Jan 2007 17:50 GMT22

fitting that I
can't get a good seal on. I even replaced the tube section and of

rebuilt or new alternator, starter?09 Jan 2007 16:08 GMT6
Auto Zone and NAPA  say their rebuilt domestic alternators and starters
are as good as the new ones they sell.  Do you agree or not?
Dealer also sells rebuilt starters etc.  Would a rebuild from dealer be
better than a NAPA rebuilt starter?   I avoid buying new from dealer
84-87 Honda CRX mileage09 Jan 2007 01:55 GMT1
I am trying to find out which year and exactly the gas mileage of the CRX that
got the great 60? mpg mileage in the middle 80s.  Also a place to get mileage
info of other cars would be good too.

Are brakes simply brakes?09 Jan 2007 00:12 GMT8
Sorry, this might seem like a naive question. I have repaired brakes myself
on my cars for many years (Cavalier and Corolla), and I now have a friend
who wants me to repair her worn brake pads for her Xterra. I am not familiar
with this SUV, but is it safe to say replacing brake ...
Help for total auto ignoramous - electrical08 Jan 2007 22:45 GMT9
I know almost nothing about cars.  I'm hoping that I might get a little
direction here.  Thanks for any help you can offer.
Car is a 1999 Mazda Protege.  Suddenly, the car won't start.  Not
turning over, nothing.  I open the hood and the battery cables are very
97 Blazer rough start Dies08 Jan 2007 22:41 GMT6
I've had my blazer for a few years and I am approaching 120k in miles.
I did a tune up (Spark plug wires, plugs, rotor and cap) at about 85k.
I just replaced the fuel filter.  When I start up the beast, sometimes
it runs fine, sometimes when the idle comes down from the start, it

best way to "downsize" a bus engine?08 Jan 2007 13:41 GMT7
for an Asian procurement, I'm looking at a stripped Toyota Coaster bus
as the starting point to convert into a relocate-able office. I use the
term "relocate-able" rather than "mobile" because there will never be a
need to go faster than 25 mph. The thing won't be more than once a ...
Balancing tires on a Hunter GSP 970008 Jan 2007 05:01 GMT4
Am getting new tires and have become aware of this machine. Is this one
of many brands of wheel-balancing machines, or is it worth seeking out?
When I have bought tires previously (which is seldom) I have paid no
attention, and have had no problems.
Motor Size07 Jan 2007 23:20 GMT7
I realize there must be a lot of variables, and perhaps you can elaborate on
the more important ones, but generally speaking, is a 6-cyl motor going to
be inherently more durable than a 4-cyl, and an 8-cyl more durable than a
6-cyl?
