Trustworthy auto repair shops08 Jun 2007 10:22 GMT4
After all the bad experience I have had with unfair auto repair shops,
I can say that I have found a solution. The http://www.citycarrepair.com
website offers a short list of trustworthy repair shops all over the
USA. I think it will be as valuable a resource to you as it is to me ...
Help request - NOx doubled in dyno inspection08 Jun 2007 03:57 GMT4
This is the same situation I had the last time I went for
inspection... Nox on my 91 BMW 318i failed. Only this time, it has
doubled from the accepted level!  My car an E30 318i with the M42 1.8L
engine was designed without an EGR or any other sort of NOx control,
Car stereos:  some inneresting fyi07 Jun 2007 21:04 GMT6
Awl--
I've posted about removing the stereo from my 1990 Mazda 929S, and some may
think, Why Bother?
The reason is this:
compression test variance07 Jun 2007 17:59 GMT3
Ran a compression test on my car because it had been running hot.  Was
told that it could be a head issue.
Cylinders 1, 2 and 4 had the same result:  185 psi.
Cylinder 3, however, was way out of whack.  162 psi.  Squirted three
Do the tops of these pistons tell you anything?07 Jun 2007 13:34 GMT14
I recently posted about a problem with my '89 Cressida, with water
loss presumably through the head gasket. I pulled the head today but
the metal portions of the gasket aren't broken per-se.
Here's a pic of the tops of the pistons. I notice the front 2 and back
Wierd Motorcycle07 Jun 2007 13:29 GMT13
I've seen an odd looking motorcycle in the area over the past few weeks.
It has three wheels, one in the back and two in the front.
I got a good look at it cornering the other day. It appears to have some
sort of front suspension linkage that keeps both front wheels on the
'93 ford tempo will not start07 Jun 2007 03:34 GMT2
My '93 Tempo has run fine for quite some time. It has a nearly-new
battery and terminals which look good still.
The last time I drove it it was fine, I parked it in my driveway and
turned it off.
Are these blemishes on the block between the cylinders something to be concerned about?06 Jun 2007 21:54 GMT8
You may have seen my recent post regarding a head gasket issue on an
'89 Cressida. The gasket wasn't outright broken but the machine said
it showed signs of cross port intrusion. After cleaning the old gasket
residue off this block preparing to put the surfaced head on I noticed
Poor sales lead to the death of a Hybrid Honda06 Jun 2007 20:27 GMT4
Gee and all I hear is how GREAT these cars are and how they are taking
over the world.
Guess that is a bunch of bull....
I like the total sales of the Prius since 97 as well. at the rate they
Hydro boost power steering06 Jun 2007 18:32 GMT1
Hi, I blew a hose on the power steering on a 76 caddy convertable and
had it repaired.  Now the hoses heat up like it is boiling the fluid
and when you shut the enging off the fluid is forced out the top of
the power steering pump.
1997 Savana Van has my mechanic STUMPED!06 Jun 2007 15:51 GMT18
recently purchased a 1997 Savana van (5r.8 L Vortec) that seemed in
very good condition. The previous owner told me that the only problem
they had was that about a year ago, the battery kept draining and the
fuel pump 'went'. They had both changed and didn't have any more
Finding the A/C clutch...06 Jun 2007 05:31 GMT11
Awl--
OK, I'm gonna give this A/C thing a shot, see if the problem really is
electrical by just putting a jump to the A/C clutch.
If I could find it....   :(

Replacing Olds 5.7l diesel head gasket05 Jun 2007 23:17 GMT10
What procedure should I follow?  Do I need to remove the bolts in a
specific order?  It is not worth contracting this work out to
anybody.  This could be an exercise in shear folly if more than the
gasket needs to be replaced.
Engine Died05 Jun 2007 23:06 GMT16
I need a wizard to suggest what to expect when I reach my daughter's house
in a couple of days.  Her report was, "Dad, we were driving the '96 Nissan
Quest and nearing home when the car just died.  Jumping it produces just a
couple of clicks from the starter, not an engine turnover ...
