i went to crank the '01 this morning and it took about 25 seconds of
cranking.  it was 10 degrees out, but the truck was plugged in all night
long and it never takes more than 1 second (literally) for it to crank.  i
let it idle for a minute and headed out.  i got MAYBE 3 blocks ...

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 1/2 Ton with the 5.2L V8.  I notice that
when I accelerate or otherwise put the engine under load, I hear a
sound like spark knock.  Also, the truck feels "jerky" at times - even
when there is no knocking sound.
