Yesterday around noon I came home for lunch. As I drove through my
neighborhood, I saw ahead of me a line of middle school kids riding
their bikes side-by-side, blocking the entire street. As I was about
to lay on the horn, one of them heard my approach and wisely got out

Should an Auto Repair shop inform a customer up front that they
couldn't do the job, so they gave the task to another shop?  I took my
car in for a transmission job, and the shop gave me an estimate. Then
they say 4 hours later...''Oh, we're going to give the job to another

I just read a story of a local 19 year old guy with suspended license and no
insurance who was dinged for doing 142 at 3 am.  He was driving a 1992 Civic
on I-205 in Portland--the officer said his defense was, "But officer, I was
only doing 140!"

The scene: Homer and Marge are driving down the highway, when Homer
announces they are coming upon a "gentle curve" in the highway.  The next
seen shows several SUVs attempting to take the turn, wherein all roll off
the highway with some bursting into flames.

I'm thinking of turn lanes for parking lots in particular.  They're
there so you won't slow down everyone else as you slow to make the
turn.
I see people ignore them completely all the time.

I've seen this behavior on a regular basis, and it is
puzzling...Are these people nervous about merging, and
instinctively brake, reacting to an imaginary peril?!

Because IL limited access highway speed limits are still in the NMSL dark
ages, the construction zone speed limits are even lower. 45mph normally,
but I've seen them as low as 35mph. They are often posted for short
sections of shoulder work.

 My brother driving home had the car die on him- the check engine light had
come on for a few minutes and the engine was "missing" occasionally.  I was
a passenger.  He coasted off the road and stopped near a T-intersection with
a small dirt road.  I turned on the flashers, we let ...

road conditions?  BECAUSE THEY CAN.  That's why they bought their SUV.  It
has the capabilities to enable them to negotiate difficult road and weather
conditions with confidence.  Are they being reckless?  ...

I would rather live in a cardboard box in Tucson than commute THREE
HOURS PER DAY(!!!)
