| I didn't scare ya, did I? | 12 Sep 2006 23:11 GMT | 8 |
Bringing a car back home from the mechanic today (a rant for another time) and took <sarcasm> America's Favorite Highway (translation I-95) </sarcasm> for part of the trip. The ramp I used to enter the road is fairly straight and definitely long enough to get up to highway speed

| Seattle lowers traction in intersection, calls it "improvement" | 12 Sep 2006 22:31 GMT | 21 |
Talk about poorly thought out! Some neighbors were upset that traffic was going too fast, thought about speed bumps, then got the city to approve a big painting in the intersection. Hope no one needs to use their brakes, or turn in this intersection. Good thing

I tried to resurrect the old thread (started back on Jan 2 IIRC). I could still read it but no replies can be made there. Last post there was on Jan 6. The trial for the road rage incident where the perp killed momma by

| Liberal vs. Conservative Media | 12 Sep 2006 06:07 GMT | 7 |
Here's an article about a run-of-the-mill traffic accident. Notice the subtle differences in how the collision is described by the Orange County Register, a conservative newspaper, and compare it with the sorts of descriptions given by liberal rags like the Arizona Daily

Here we have a pickup truck which is parked perpendicular to the curb instead of parallel to it, effectively blocking one entire side of the street: http://i6.tinypic.com/4i5s7lg.jpg

| "COPS" from sept 9th | 12 Sep 2006 05:04 GMT | 7 |
Anybody see this? Cop pulls over a guy for a broken windshield, of course he has no license. While the cop is going about his business, I happened to look away from the TV for a second.... We hear this lockup of some tires, and another car plows into a bicyclist who apparently

Can someone explain the correct way to change gears with a manual shift? That is, what is the precise sequence of foot movements for efficient gear-changing with minimal wear on the gearbox? Thanks in advance.

| Speed limits on gravel roads? | 10 Sep 2006 22:20 GMT | 32 |
This question came up in a friend's letter to the editor in my hometown newspaper. He had inquired with the state patrol about what the speed limit was on county gravel roads; the response was that it's the same as on the highways. The writer cited an incident in which someone was

| Gasoline sold at higher temperatures without adjustments cost consumers | 10 Sep 2006 18:53 GMT | 31 |
This article points out that consumers may be short changed by fuel pumps that do not compensate for fuel sold above 60 degrees, which is a historical standard. Gasoline volume expands with higher temperature (density goes down), but your engine gets its energy from mass, not

| Replacing front tires | 10 Sep 2006 18:23 GMT | 54 |
I have an '89 Olds car with 4 Goodyear Aquatred tires on it. I need to replace the front pair of tires as the car will not pass state inspection because of tread depth. I want to just replace the front tires as the rear tires are still in good shape, tread-wise.

At the Post Orifice this morning there was this 20something standing in front of the "Stamped Mail" slot. She had a handful of letters she was mailing (at least 20 envelopes). She was depositing them into the slot ONE AT A TIME. After each one, she would pause for a second or
