Scientific American article on Ethanol30 Jan 2007 01:41 GMT257

I went to Fry's Electronics yesterday to turn in a monitor for fixing.  I
had to get a "manager" to search the files for my sales invoice.
This "manager" was 18 years old.  We spent a bit of time together getting
the records out of the computer database.

Of gas, snacks, and parking-space bandits29 Jan 2007 19:23 GMT3
Excerpted from a new or upcoming book, _Oil on the Brain: Adventures
from the Pump to the Pipeline_ by Lisa Margonelli, this article gives
an interesting look behind the scenes at a (small, and these days,
perhaps anomalous) urban gas station:
Elizabethtown, KY, USA video29 Jan 2007 15:06 GMT1
Wouldn't you know it?  In the good ol' Mid-South, most Starbucks locations
didn't have WiFi services.  Oh well...
Picking up where we left off, here's a video of US Federal Route 31W...  in
the key of F Major!  The location is in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  There are

Explanation29 Jan 2007 14:02 GMT4
Can someone explain the "New book on Michigan highways" thread?
Why would someone spend so much time doing this?
I think it's time to hang some spammers and porn peddlers.
But, I'm not going to make it my lifelong agenda and relentlessly spew it

26 lanes wide. 356,000+ vehicles per day. Until it was rebuilt in
1997, it was one of the most congested freeway interchanges in the
universe. Even today it is one of the busiest. And now I invite you to
drive through it with me...

Wow, Business Loop shield in Victorville29 Jan 2007 04:38 GMT4
Today I just noticed, just before the Old Town Victorville|Apple
Valley exit on southbound I-15 (that'd be the CA-18 East/D Street

Business 15 is signed with a sign with the words "Route 15 Business."

Since some states have them (front plates) and some states don't,
wouldn't you think by now it would be clear to everyone that front
plates are not needed?  You know that if there was a correlation
between having a front plate and "better" law enforcement of some
