KRETP becomes KLEWBP17 Jul 2009 23:44 GMT28
I am a firm believer in KRETP (Keep Right Except To Pass) but the
condition of the right lane (as compared to the left lane) on
southbound I-5 in Kern County CA forced me into a new paradigm:
KLEWBP - Keep Left Except While Being Passed.
Red light never changes17 Jul 2009 02:43 GMT33
For some reason there is a red light at an intersection that late at
night never changes.  It happens to be at the end of a road that goes
to a 24 hour Walmart store.  That is the ONLY way to leave the store's
parking lot, and that road enters the main highway.  Worse yet, there
AMERICAN CULTURE AND VEHICLE NOISES17 Jul 2009 01:06 GMT3
When I visited the US recently I found many trucks, cars, and motorcycles
have extremely violent noise when they take off (accelerate). It turned out
that the mufflers of those vehicles have been MODIFIFIED to be so loud. In
other words, the AMERICANS SPEND THE MONEY TO BE ...

Wow, for once a new law actually makes it *harder* for the highwaymen
to steal from us!

Ques. about I580 from I205 split to I5 merge and then further south....16 Jul 2009 21:09 GMT134
I've been having to travel on the I580-Altamont/I5-Westside Freeway down
to the State 152 corridor route a lot more than usual of late and in the
sheer boredom of the route I can't help notice something that really
doesn't make sense: 580 was built in the rolling hills section of ...

You Can Imagine My Disappointment16 Jul 2009 17:52 GMT2
So I'm in the right lane on a surface street approaching a red light.
Another car is already stopped in the lane ahead of me.
Just as the light turns green, a MFFY in a pink Escalade (yes, that's
right - a PINK CADILLAC) on the cross-street rolls through the red
Picture Slideshow:  was down, now up again16 Jul 2009 00:43 GMT7
Hi Viatologists,
Recently, the WWTL's Picture Slideshow function broke down.  This caused you
to see 404 errors when running any speed of playback (Slow, Medium, Fast).
The culprit is Microsoft Notepad, which f.cks up ASCII coding for the *very*
Rest Area Closed - Next Rest Area 90 Miles14 Jul 2009 01:29 GMT25
That scary sign is posted on southbound I-5 near the closed rest area
near MP 259 near Buttonwillow, CA.
This sign is correct on one count (the Buttonwillow Rest Area is
indeed closed) but is incorrect on two other counts.  The rest area

nearly was the tool of bicycle rider's darwin award today13 Jul 2009 05:12 GMT11
I pass a bicycle rider with a full lane as I generally do... but how
does he repay that? He decides to gutter pass... guess what? the light
turns green. I'm turning right, signal on... does he stop passing? No.
He's damn lucky I was looking for him gutter passing otherwise he'd be

Speed Up - Slow Down - Zoom Zoom Zoom13 Jul 2009 02:31 GMT17
My daily commute begins with 2 miles of surface streets, followed by
one of the most dreaded freeways in Southern California, southbound
I-405 going up the hill to leave the San Fernando Valley and enter the
Los Angeles basin in morning rush hour (any time from 6-11 AM).
Going to Dixon, CA13 Jul 2009 02:20 GMT8
I'm heading from the L.A. area to Dixon, a town along I-80 southwest
of Sacramento.  Depending on where in Dixon I'm going, the online maps
switch between staying on I-5 to US-50/BL-80 and then heading west (/
southwest) on I-80, and a route west along CA-12, then north on
