1999 Ford Explorer OBD-II Trouble Codes14 Jan 2004 23:47 GMT2
I am experiencing some difficulty in understanding what in the heck is
the deal with these codes. My usual "Ford Doctor" who is reliable as
the day is long, could not aid in the repair of my 1999 Ford Explorer,
as his scanner only worked on cars with earlier than OBD-II cars.
Engine Mgmt Software Upgrade14 Jan 2004 14:49 GMT3
Brought my 98 XLT in with a check engine light today. They found a
leak in the intake manifold. The dealer also, suggested an optional
software upgrade which is supposed to make my engine run more
"efficiently". All I could pry out of them was that it changes the
Engine Dies Unexpectedly14 Jan 2004 04:33 GMT10
I wonder if anyone has experienced this problem. I have a 2000 EB with the
5.0L engine. The car has about 53,000 miles on it. Today I was sitting at a
stop light at idle when all of a sudden the engine just dies. Starts right
up and takes off with no problem. Didn't die again. I did ...
4x4 Troubles14 Jan 2004 04:14 GMT2
My 96 explorer made three loud clunks when driving down the road last week. I stopped the vehicle, looked under, and saw no obvious problems, so I continued home, the truck felt like the brakes were on, but they weren't, but after a few feet, it drove normally, and has so for the ...
OEM Running Boards???14 Jan 2004 02:46 GMT3
I have an '02 XLT 4-Door that I want to put running boards on.  I've seen
the tubular kind but would really prefer the oem type that are more of a
"board" style with the checkerboard surface like the rear bumper has.  The
price I've seen for these is around $400 whereas the tubular ...
97 Suspension Problem?14 Jan 2004 02:44 GMT4
Almost 90,000 miles on it, for about a day the "check engine" light was on, eventually went off, I think it needed to be warmed up.  Then the engine started to make bad clanking sounds.  Later last night Im driving on the highway and the truck starts bouncing.  You know how you ...

Battery for 1996 XLT13 Jan 2004 20:08 GMT2
My battery has finally died a death and needs replacing.
Having brought the USA bought XLT to the UK I cannot get an original battery
as designed for this 4.6L XLT 2WD Model.
However, I can get the battery for the UK edition 4.0L equivalent.

Would a 2003 AWD Explorer benefit from a limited slip rear differential?13 Jan 2004 19:32 GMT2
I bought a used 2003 AWD Explorer 4 door that has the 3.55 open
differential rear axle.  A salesman told me that Ford's AWD sends
power to all four wheels thus I do not need to have a limited slip
diff.  I'm skeptical of this but have not found a good source of

I have a 2001 explorer Sport and I am hearing a humming noise....Sounds like
its coming from the engine...I had the transmission flushed thinking maybe
that would solve the humming...but its still there...any suggestions?

R&R Auto Transmission on '96 Explorer?12 Jan 2004 21:26 GMT2
I picked-up a '96 Explorer in real nice shape, execept for a bad
