97 Explorer XLT stalls when reversing30 Apr 2004 16:44 GMT2
I've got a V6 SOHC '97 XLT with 161K miles on it.  Just recently, I've
had problems when backing into my garage.  After stopping and going
into Reverse, the engine will stall.  I've had one incident driving
slowly in a parking lot when it stalled as well.  I've noticed it's

I have a 1998 explorer I bought used. The manual says the number sequence to
the keypad is on the computer...now if I knew where the computer was. Any
ideas?
2002 Ford Explorer Whine / Howl28 Apr 2004 19:10 GMT11
Just wanted to add my story to the countless others.  Bought a 2002 Explorer in 7/02. First heard whine from rear-end at 25K and took it to dealer.  They said it was normal.  (Also had it back 3 times for a faulty compass, once for cracked rear hatch, and once for faulty rear ...
Goodyear tires28 Apr 2004 06:53 GMT9
Have been checking on tires for my 99 Explorer XLS, leaning towards
Michelin.  My question is, Goodyear has some that are like $30.00 cheaper
per tire, was there anything that you guys experienced who has used Goodyear
tires.  I thought a came across a post a couple months ago that ...

I replaced my vacuum control module because it was leaking, on my test
drive after, i found when my transmission would need to shift from 1-2 or
2-3 that it would begin to flare. I was wondering if anyone else has come
across this problem, if can you tell how you fixed it, or if ...
Drivers Side Passenger Row Window Stuck28 Apr 2004 04:14 GMT2
The drivers side passenger row window on my '03 Explorer XLT doesn't
seem to want to go down.  Neither the drivers controls, or the door
controls seem to work.  I don't hear any unusual noises when I'm
pressing the switch, and the rest of the windows work fine.  Any

Axle Seal Squeal27 Apr 2004 18:16 GMT1
In the first few years I had the axle seals replaced at least 3 times.
It's been fine for the last few year but now my 98 is over 6 yrs old
now and I've got that old familiar squal coming back. Since I'm out of
warranty I'm wondering what's involved in replacing these seals
Replace in-dash lightbulbs on 1995 Explorer XLT26 Apr 2004 16:10 GMT5
Howdy, I have a light bulb or 2 (in particular, behind the fuel gauge) that
have gone out.
The dealer (while estimating other maintenance charges) said it'd be $80 to
replace the bulbs.
I've got the bug26 Apr 2004 04:00 GMT6
I've really got the new car bug and am seriously considering trading my
'97 Ranger 4x4 for an '04 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4x4.  What's the general
consensus of this group on the new E.B.Explorers?
ford coil packs26 Apr 2004 00:45 GMT8
the local ford dealer just told me that my #3 cylinder misfire issue is
related to  the coil pack.  There are 8 of them instead of the normal wires
that attach to the spark plugs.  The cost to replace the one bad one is
$250.    My mileage is low but  my warranty ended 2 months ago ...
1991 mounting "stuff" on floor.26 Apr 2004 00:33 GMT3
I have a charger for a light (streamlight Vulcan) I want to mount in some
manner in front of the console on the transmission hump.
Is it safe to drill through at this point or is there some 3rd party device
that spans the hump and will allow me to mount the light on that?

'96 XLT with "hot soak" idle problem24 Apr 2004 13:34 GMT1
Recently my '96 XLT 4.0L ohv with 90k miles has started exhibiting rough
idle after what I used to know in my carbureted days as a "hot soak" (stop
of approx. 20-30 mins after reaching normal operating temp).  Engine starts
fine when cold, fine when hot after short stops (gas stop, ...

99 XLT - 115k Miles, Orginal battery.
After a 1 hr from work commute, the Explorer sometimes does not start after
putting gas, or running into a store for a few minutes. I have recieved
conflicting reports on the 5 1/2 yr old battery. Local Chevron station said
