94 eb loaded 125000 miles.........my wife and i took a sunday drive
today......while coming home and going up a hill the motor quit, acted

That is the question I ask of a 1991 EB auto 4x4 Explorer.  Tranny has
definitely lost a seal from over heating.  Rebuild kits are around $285 and
up.  A new tranny is $1200 after core $1790 before core.  I only paid $2800
for the Explorer.  I guess I just want to know if it is ...

Has anyone replaced their rusty side step bars on an Explorer Sport?  I
can't find any aftermarket alternative for the 2 door Sport model.  I guess
that I could blast and powder coat the cra**y OEM bars but they will
probably just rust out again.  And the rubber step pads are way ...

I typically down-shift when approaching traffic lights, or when exiting the
freeway, and thereby use "engine braking" to aid in slowing down.
Will the transmission be damaged if I regulary down-shift???
