HELP / ADVICE 92 EXPLORER31 Oct 2004 03:43 GMT5
Hi, I am looking at buying a 92 Explorer. The only major problem is the
owner told me that his mechanic told him that there was an engine seal leak.
The owner says that simply keeping up with the 3000 mile oil changes is
enough. The only thing I notice is the fact that I can smell ...
Volume control for JBL radio30 Oct 2004 07:02 GMT6
I have a '96 EB with the JBL AM/FM/cassette stereo.  The on/off/volume
control (it's a switch and a potentiometer in one) won't let me turn the
radio off anymore.  I took it apart and found the problem, which is a worn
plastic guide.  However, the Ford dealer told me that the ...
DPFE sensor29 Oct 2004 23:48 GMT3
Is it possible to "clean out" a clogged DPFE sensor and have it still be
operational?  After giving the parts monkey my $55 and replacing my old one
the tinker in mean begain wondering.  Out of curiousity, I drilled out the
rivets and discovered the accumulated combustion ...
Spark plug replacement on 9128 Oct 2004 21:37 GMT2
Replaced the spark plugs last night.  That right rear plug is a bitch to get
at.  The original plugs still fired, but after 14 years it didn't seem like
a bad idea to switch.  The gap had grown to about .075, somewhat over spec.
I'm hoping to gain a little better gas mileage with ...
2002 Trailer hitch28 Oct 2004 12:11 GMT7
My 2002 XLT came with a Class II, 1-1/4" receiver hitch.  I'd like to
replace it with a Class III, 2" hitch.
Is it a simple matter of unbolting the original and bolting on the new
one or is there some welding to contend with?

Flashing O/D Light on 96 Explorer27 Oct 2004 23:56 GMT1
Hello all, I have a 96 model Ford Explorer XLT with the 4.0 SOHC motor. I
find that when ever I go on long trips and am doing around 110kms/h (I am
from Australia so excuse the Kms instead on the Mph) I have the overdrive
light come on and flashes. Once this happens the transmission ...
What would replace a 1991 Explorer XL?27 Oct 2004 20:15 GMT4
I'm still driving my 91 XL, bought new (took delivery Christmas Eve
1990).  She now has all of 173000km (~110K mi)!  This is an XL with
AC, cruise control, rear window defroster (rear wiper long since
fallen off), and not much else (I put on 235 Michelins in 1996).
Bottom fog lights question27 Oct 2004 15:51 GMT2
I need to know the bulb number for a 97 Explorer bottom clear fog lights. It
seems that the 886 referenced does not fit, on the ones removed the
lettering is worn off. There are several different types that "look" right
but the two types that I bought do not fit.
Is the Ford Explorer good for illegal street races ???27 Oct 2004 06:06 GMT8
My friends say that my Fors Explorer is slow and I can never beat them.
Is that true ?
Can I upgrade the car for the street races?
It's important to be faster than the cops, that's rule #1!
97 explorer radio lights27 Oct 2004 01:48 GMT6
My wife's 97 explorer no longer has any light on the radio. Station, clock,
etc. The radio works find but no lights makes it interesting changing
stations. Any thoughts?
Engine is possesed ?26 Oct 2004 20:03 GMT1
'98 Explorer A/T 4X4 4.0L SOHC engine. ~67K miles on it.
Today it started acting all wierd. The symptoms are:
- Runs hotter than usual. Before, heat or cold (I live in TX) the dial would
set right in the middle of the scale when the engine would reach operating
Where's the radiator cap?26 Oct 2004 18:29 GMT7
I just drained the engine coolant, back-flushed the system, and added the new
coolant on my "new to me" used 2001 Windstar (3.8L engine).  I could not locate
the radiator cap.  I noticed the reservoir pressure warning labels so I assumed
the radiator was born without a cap.  ...
Squealing serp belt26 Oct 2004 00:29 GMT4
'97 Explorer Limited, V6 SOHC:
I've been trying to silence my serp belt since I replaced it a few months
back.  I noticed that the smooth idler pulley (above the fan and to the
right of the alternator) seems to have originally been coated with something
