Can anyone help? I put it into reverse, there was a load 'click' then nothing. All other gear selections appear to be OK I just can't go backwards. Thanks

HELP! I've got a distinct chirping under the hood of my '98 explorer. It has approx. 116K miles on it, but i have taken good care of the vehicle. I have replaced both idler pulleys and the alternator, which have helped, but still have the chirping sound. Water pump??

I did that prior to my post. I got the same answer from Cottman and a Ford Truck dealer...make an appointment and bring it in. My local mechanic could not give me a ballpark figure. He doesn't do transmissions. But thanks Bill.

While driving around 55 mph I had to come off of the accelerator. When I did so the RPM came down and I could feel the engine slow down and the car of course slowed down to. However, for a couple of moments, I heard a "whinning" noise. So I applied the gas and the noise went away ...
