I have this explorer that keeps breaking the dipstick when I put it in the
motor.  I've replaced the tube and the dipstick both but it keeps breaking.
Right on the tip like its twisting off.   Anyone ever had this problem know
what to do about it?  I seem to recall newer 4.0l ...

I just bought a 98 Explorer Sport. The oil pressure gauge reads exactly
dead center all the time the engine is running, whether at 600RPM or
4000RPM. Is this normal? This is my first Ford and I every other car
I've owned showed some fluctuation in oil pressure with varying engine

Mercury Mountaineer questions14 Dec 2004 15:39 GMT1
Howdy,
My sister would like to buy a Mountaineer, but wanted to know if there
were any pitfalls. She is looking at a 2002 or newer. I had heard that
there were 'transmission issues' but haven't been able to get anything
radio13 Dec 2004 21:20 GMT4
i too am experiencing a casual fading of my radio lights.  But more
importantly i have noticed that when i eject a cd from the player, the cd
is almost too hot to handle.  What would be causing the cd itself to be so
hot?
Strange Dangerous Problem. Anyone Help?13 Dec 2004 14:03 GMT15
I have a 1999 Explorer XLT  (72000 on clock, all but first 3000 mine) in UK.
Was driving through town at 25 or so mph in traffic.
Traffic ahead slowed so i touched the brakes. There was a strange metallic
knocking noise, just like a spanner being dropped through the engine

My '02 Explorer XLT w/ 32k miles on it has recently started to occasionally
show an empty fuel tank and Check Gauge light, when the tank has plenty of
fuel.
4wd 2004 Sport Trac12 Dec 2004 23:05 GMT2

was a limited slip setup meaning both the front wheels turn. I have an XTL
'98 Ex Vs. 2000 Ex12 Dec 2004 20:49 GMT1
I have just been offered a good trade-in deal on my 1998 4.0 SOHC 4X4
against a 2000 4.0 North Face spec Ex. Putting aside the various trim
options are there any major differences in the things to look out for when
buying a 2000 Ex? I know about inspecting brake discs (rotors, to ...
Cost for satellite radio10 Dec 2004 15:13 GMT5
I've got an '05 eddie bauer with the satellite "capable" radio. My
local ford dealer quoted me $650 to actually install the necessary
parts to get the signal. Does that sound right?????
98 explorer heater10 Dec 2004 09:07 GMT2
i have a 98 explorer limited with digital controls.  What occurs is a
variation in actual temp.  Heater will be set at 80 degrees and works fine
for about 3-4 min.  But, after this time, the temp drops.  The digital
readout still says it is at 80 but cold air blows.  Is this a ...
99' Explorer Sport idle problem10 Dec 2004 08:56 GMT2

about 45 seconds before you let off and then it still wants to die. any

No trans dipstick on '02s10 Dec 2004 02:56 GMT1
Jeez how cheap can they get.  I guess most people never even check their
tranny fluid, but I drive ~ 30K per year, and change trans fluid at that
interval.  What a pain to pull out a bolt and do a site check.

2002 explorer leaking water10 Dec 2004 02:33 GMT3
I noticed the dome light near the windshield is filling up with water when
it rains.  There is a small seperation at the upper windshield seal but it
is not near the dome light.   Any theories on this?   Would this be a
warranty issue?   Thanks   dave
Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke09 Dec 2004 06:38 GMT2
I know how to find TDC.  But how do you find TDC of the compression stroke
for the #1 cylinder?
One method I read about involved putting your finger in the spark plug hole
while rotating the engine crankshaft!
