98 Explorer - A/C Compressor Clutch engaging on/off08 Jan 2005 07:19 GMT6
I have a 98 Explorer that has a Air Conditioning issue.  The clutch
seems to go on and off every few seconds while idling.  I have worked
around the issue in the winter time by turning the selector to the
VENT position instead of the other heating options.  I can understand

Been having intermittant problems with getting it to shift into 4WD.
Am getting desperate because where I live I can't be without it.
Have had the problem off and on for a few yrs. but it always would
eventually go into 4WD.  Got worse this year so I pulled apart the
Check Gage question07 Jan 2005 11:40 GMT2
The Check Gage light on the instrument panel came on after I started my 01'
XLS. It went off after I put the Explorer into reverse, backed out of the
parking space then put it in drive. After I arrived home I went out to start
the Explorer a little later but this time everything ...

Error Code 306 - `97 Explorer07 Jan 2005 06:55 GMT3
My `97 Explorer Limited - V8 (137,000 miles) started missing
yesterday.
The miss is most noticable during light-moderate acceleration.  As
well as when going up a hill.  Typically it seems to idle smoothly.
98 Explorer XLT radio display not working07 Jan 2005 03:51 GMT12
I have a MACH radio that the display does not illuminate.  I
have researched on the web and found some posting that the problem is
due to some bad solder connection on a power supply inside the radio
that is dedicated to the display.  Can anyone post the specific
Antilock woes07 Jan 2005 02:51 GMT7
I have a '97 Explorer with the 5.0, AWD.  Lately I've been experiencing an
issue with the antilock brakes.  When slowing down, the antilocks will kick
in once the speed of the vehicle drops below 5-10 mph.  This is happening on
a consistent basis, and is quite annoying.  The ...
rear wiper woes07 Jan 2005 01:03 GMT7
I just replaced all the wipers on my 98 Explorer Sport. New fronts are
fine. The old rear wiper missed most of the center of its sweep,
cleaning only a small area near the wiper tips. The new one is doing
exactly the same thing. I've never had this problem on any of my other
Max tire size on my '02?06 Jan 2005 16:10 GMT1
Can anyone tell me the largest tire I can use on my '02 XLS 4wd with the
factory 16"rims?  I saw an XLT with 245's, so I guess they will work. I
don't want to go too big, but the current Michelins, 235's I think, look
lost in the wheel wells.

I have a 1999 Explorer and at about 55K miles a humming sound started
coming from around the air intake ducting in the right front of the

I took it to the dealer, who said that codes were showing for running

Upper and Lower ball joints in 2000 explorer05 Jan 2005 19:37 GMT4
For last month had loud sqeeking sound from right front.  Thought something
needed greasing so took it in to dealer.  They say no grease fittings;
replace upper and lower control arms(??) . Veh has 58000 miles. Steers and
rides good.  Is this reasonable?  Thanks
