40K Service on 3 Yr Old Mountaineer V811 Aug 2005 15:39 GMT13
I scheduled some service on my 2003 '03 Mountaineer V8 that will be 3 years
old on Sept 15th. I've never done anything under the hood except oil
changes, a fuel filter at 30,000 miles and an air filter.
The dealer suggests a tranny flush ($139) and a coolant drain and fill

Gauge cluster cover cracked10 Aug 2005 17:20 GMT1
Looked today at my gauge cluster and found that it is starting to get two
cracks in the plastic over the top of all the gauges. Wow, I can't think
what has caused this.
Anyone seen this? I'm at 250,000 miles now. Anyone replaced the plastic

'06 Explorer09 Aug 2005 15:56 GMT4
I saw photos of the '06 Explorer/Mountaineer and it looks like they have
some nice improvements. Of course at $2.50/gallon and rising, I can't see
trading in my '03 for another 13MPG-around-town guzzler. My guess, however,
is that by Xmas these beasts will be littering up dealer ...
Standard CD Player09 Aug 2005 02:17 GMT2
At what model year did the Explorer have a standard CD player/
AM/FM Stereo as opposed to the standard Cassette player?  My son is
driving a 95 XLT with the cassette and would like the CD.  I'm
thinking I could pick up a CD big button version from a salvage yard.

guess what number or radio station it's on,does anyone know what the
problem may be?

Factory oil filters redux07 Aug 2005 16:40 GMT8
Last week I posted how difficult it is to remove FACTORY installed oil
filters.  Most post repliers, except for Jim Warman, didn't seem to
understand my post and tried to help me install a new filter (oil gasket,
hand tighten, etc.).
02 explorer Audiophile six CD  errors06 Aug 2005 15:21 GMT5
The display shows "CD ERROR" and will not eject/ load / or play.
There are 4 CD's in the unit and nothing works.
All other functions are OK.

Explorer Brake Pads, Rotors05 Aug 2005 03:16 GMT4
Need to replace front rotors and pads.  Not knowing any better, I am leaning
towards Bendix brand, but it is significantly more expensive.
I wonder if the Bedix price is worth the money, or what brand would be the best
?

My professionally installed window tint film is starting to peel away from
the tops of some of the windows in my exploder, 4 years after it was
installed.
Any solutions?
Front-end Noise04 Aug 2005 23:29 GMT9
Hello to All,
I have a 1999 Explorer XLT 2WD 4.0 SOHC.  Now with about 76K miles I'm
having what appears to be my first problem (other than the killer tire
swap).
96 XLT tune-up04 Aug 2005 19:13 GMT2
I have a 96 I bought used several years ago, and in this time I've never
had it tuned up. I've never experienced any drivablility issues, so I'm
wondering if it should be done despite this?
I have had the air filter changed a few times, but not the other typical
