1992 Ford Explorer 4x4 electrical problem.14 Oct 2005 20:37 GMT2
My wife’s 1992 Ford Explorer idles down as she puts on brakes and the ABS,
Check Engine light, and Battery light blink.  The speaker makes a popping
sound even though the radio was not on. The mechanic put new back drum
brakes on because he drove it and no lights came on. But after ...
2005 Explorer Automatic Door Locks14 Oct 2005 03:22 GMT2
I have a 2005 Explorer and have noticed a couple of bass-ackwards ways of
dealing with the automatic door locks. This is the first car I've ever
seen that does this:
First of all when you unlock the doors from the INSIDE, it only unlocks
Temp gauge on 97 SOHC stays at hot but fluctuates slightly14 Oct 2005 03:05 GMT3
I have a 97 Explorer Limited SOHC.  A few weeks ago I started up the
truck and within a few minutes the temp gauge was all the way at the
top and the computer in the console told me to check the engine
temperature.  Since then, every time I start it, even if it has been
Explorer Interior Lights14 Oct 2005 02:48 GMT1
 Greetings All,
On my 98 Explorer, when I open the driver's side door, the interior
lights will not come on any longer.  They work if you open other doors.
Where is the switch located on the door which turns on and off the lights?
96 V8 with 50k on it Gunked up ... why?12 Oct 2005 22:46 GMT7
I had to replace a leaking valve cover on my 96 this weekend, and was
SHOCKED to find a TON of sludge in the valvetrain!
This engine was COMPLETELY rebuilt 50,000 miles ago, and has had the
oil changed at least every 3,000 miles.
Best Shop Manuals for '94 Explorer?12 Oct 2005 20:39 GMT27
I just bought a 94 Explorer, and like to do as much of my own work as
possible.
Can anyone recommend a shop manual for the 94 Explorer which has been
found to be superior?
Intermittant howling12 Oct 2005 02:41 GMT3
96 Explorer 4wd 4.0 AT. I have an intermittant howling where the pitch
sounds almost like a coyote. I think it might be water pump or
alternator. doesn't change if A/C is off or on. I notice while idling
and goes away when engine is under load. tia
Gearbox in trouble in Ireland OO Explorer11 Oct 2005 23:25 GMT3
Hey group,
Big problems, I have a 2000 Explorer "North Face" (I think it's referred to
as an "Eddie Bauer" in the US).
Anyway, It wouldn't engage reverse last week, dealer took it and diagnosed
1997 Explorer P0171 and 174 trouble codes11 Oct 2005 13:19 GMT5
To all,
Any ideas?  These indicate "lean fuel air mixture bank 1"  and P0 174 is
the same for bank 2.   It drives fine.   I noticed this happens after I
drive about a mile then shut it off and go to McDonalds, then continue
99 Explorer Will Not Idle10 Oct 2005 20:47 GMT2
Yesterday, I experienced the problem that my explorer will not idle.  I must
give the engine gas in order to keep the engine running.  It is a 1999
Explorer XLT w/SOHC 4 liter engine.  I have about 77K miles on it.
When it is running or has died, the Check Engine light does not ...
Rear Noise While Turning on '9210 Oct 2005 16:28 GMT4
While making tight turns on pavement (such as in a parking lot) I am getting
a sort of grinding sound that seems to be coming from the rear wheels or
axles.  It also feels kinda loose or funny and the truck seems to jerk
sideways a little bit.  It's almost as if I was driving in 4WD ...
Explorer Diesel?09 Oct 2005 22:37 GMT11
Has anyone heard whether Ford has plans to offer a diesel in the
Explorer?  I am talking about a modern type of diesel, not the farm
tractor type usually installed in vehicles here.  I have ridden in
some in Europe and Australia where the noise and vibration was so low
2002 Explorer codes?09 Oct 2005 21:51 GMT15
The "Service Engine Soon" light just came on in my 2002 Explorer XLS.  Isn't
there some way to make the actual code display by . . . oh, I don't know . .
. turning the key a certain number of times while it's turned off or
something like that?  I just know there is SOME WAY to do ...
OBD2 eader08 Oct 2005 16:47 GMT12
I'm thinking of buying one of these. Around £25 on ebay.
I know nothing at all about them.
Are the more expensive ones that connect to a PC more useful?
I have a '99 ford explorer, (UK spec, V6), and get the Suspension warning
new water pump 97 xlt sohc07 Oct 2005 09:57 GMT1
I have been losing coolant (tried adding leak-sealer liquid) and a
repair guy told me that I need a new water pump.  He is asking $260 for
the parts and labor.  I called another radiator fix-it shop and they
want $300 for the same job.  I have a '97 xlt sohc with 230k.  What do
