OOOPS!  Used the wrong oil22 Nov 2005 22:08 GMT6
I just did the first oil change in my new 2002 V8 XLT.  I foolishly assumed (ass-u-me) it used 5W-30, like my 96 did.
As soon as I drained out the oil and popped the hood to refill it, I noticed the BIG yellow '5W-20' marked on the fill
cap.  With no other transportation ...
Headlights won't go off!22 Nov 2005 16:44 GMT8
I have a 97 Explorer XLT 5.0 V8
This is a strange one.  I can't turn off the headlights (or rear lights
or dash illumination).  Even with the keys out they all stay on,
however much I play with the headlight switch on the dash, the stalk
Tires for '03 Mountaineer (Explorer)22 Nov 2005 02:42 GMT7
My '03 Mountaineer is going to need it's 3rd set of tires soon...probably at
about 45,000 miles or maybe 48,000. They came with the Goodrich tires
(lasted 23000 miles) and I replaced them with the same. Here in tough, hilly
(stop hard and start hard) city driving of Pittsburgh ...
2002 power windows22 Nov 2005 02:16 GMT2
The window went down but won't come back up.  Can hear the motor inside the
door panel but nothing happens.  Took the panel off and can see a cable that
looks like it should be attached to something but don't know where.  Is there
somewhere that shows a diagram of how it should be ...
Automatic Headlight Adjustment21 Nov 2005 23:58 GMT1
The headlights on my '05 Limited come on too soon and then go on and
off as the light changes a bit.  Anyone know how this is adjusted and
whether this requires some sort of program change by the dealer?
60K Maintenance21 Nov 2005 15:38 GMT2
I have a '94 explorer that all I've ever done maintenance wise are oil
changes, lube and air filters. It now has 61,000 miles (I don't drive it
much). Do I need to do some other maintenance such as fuel filter, spark
plugs and wires, etc? It runs great and just passed California ...
2003 Explorer thumping upon accelleration.21 Nov 2005 02:05 GMT3
I bought a 2003 EB Explorer 4X4 in July, with about 34,000 miles on it.
On a road trip, I noticed a vibration beginning, only noticeable at
65-70 MPH.  I took a look underneath and only noted a slight leak from
one of the shaft seals (between the rear differential and the left
brakes/rotors21 Nov 2005 01:57 GMT5
I have a 2003 Sport Trac XLT.  I've changed brakes/rotors on my other
vehicles in the past.  Some being front wheel drive (Dodge/Mistubishi/Chev.)
This is my fisrt Ford I've owned.  I need to replace the front rotors and
pads.
98 Explorer-Interior lights not on when unlocking doors20 Nov 2005 21:00 GMT2
I have a 98 Explorer EB.  When I use the remote to unlock the doors, the
interior lights and puddle lights do not come on anymore.  However, when I
open the doors, the interior lights and puddle lights come on.  They use to
work fine, and have recently stopped.  Anything to check ...
Plug recomendations for 98 Ford Exp V820 Nov 2005 18:01 GMT10
I am getting ready to replace my plugs and wires and was wondering if
anyone had any specific recomendations for a set of plugs?  I have been
looking at the Splitfire TP10D, but dont really know to much about
them.
Fuel gauge20 Nov 2005 17:49 GMT2
The fuel gauge on my 1993 explorer doesn't work.
Any idea where I should start checking ?
Thanks
Stan
Best year late model Explorer19 Nov 2005 03:09 GMT4
Thinking of buying a late model explorer (2000-2005)  Are any year
models better than others?   Any years to avoid?  thanks.
99 XLT brake lights not working18 Nov 2005 03:37 GMT1
None of the 3 brake lights are working. I've narrowed it down to either
the brake light switch on the pedal or the wiring at that connector. If
I wiggle the wiring the lights will start working for awhile. I can
also pivot the switch back and forth slightly on the pivot pin and get
Wrecked my '96, might need a new one18 Nov 2005 00:57 GMT7
Could be totalled but won't know until the adjuster looks at it.
While I'm waiting to find out it's final fate I'm looking around
for a good used one, maybe 1998-2002 or so.  Are there any years
to avoid?
Air flow not switchable by control knob17 Nov 2005 16:56 GMT3
I have a 99 Explorer and noticed one day when attempting to use the A/C that
the air flow was minimum at full thrust.  I took it to a mechanic but he
wasn't able to locate the problem.  He said he took some of the dashboard
apart but didn't detect cause.  The last thing he mentioned ...
