96 Explorer starter problem14 Mar 2007 14:25 GMT7
The car intermittently will not crank.  I hear a click but no
turnover.  It starts fine for a month or so and then I'll go to the
store or work or something, come out a few minutes later (or could be
hours later) and no starting.  No crank, no turnover, just click.  The
Explorer fuse #10 blown14 Mar 2007 05:57 GMT2
I have a 98 Explorer XLT (5.0 V8), and fuse #10 is blown.  Replacing
it simply results in a new useless fuse.  Apparently this fuse
protects about 10 different circuits -- turn signal, compass/temp
module, blend door actuator, shift lock, GEM, etc.

my interior lights stopped working when I open  driver or any other door. I
can manually turn them on  but not by open the doors. Any ideas what could
cause this?
Thanks in advance
Resetting, Shutting off the theft alarm for 95 Exp Eddie Bauer12 Mar 2007 17:58 GMT2
Lost all the keys to the car and had to buy a new ignition switch. In
trying to remove the old key switch I had to drill out the keeper pin
and then broke the back of the cylinder, meaning I had to remove the
little gear in the back that drives the antilock. I had to use a screw
how to remove steering rack?11 Mar 2007 20:39 GMT13
I have a '98 Explorer XLT, and I need to take out the steering rack.
I have a Haynes manual, and it says to disconnect the steering input
shaft; remove the hoses; remove the power steering cooler; separate
the tie-rod ends from the wheel spindle; and remove the steering gear
A front-end "rattling"" tip11 Mar 2007 19:57 GMT1
About two weeks back, I posted a message asking about replacing the
air ride on my 1997 Limited with regular shocks. The reason for this
was this niggling metallic rattle that sounded like a bag of coins
from inside the cabin and I could not get rid of it.

Manual hubs for 97 Explorer10 Mar 2007 04:52 GMT5
I have a 97 ford explorer xlt 4x4 with a 4.0L.  I need to replace my hubs
and would like to use manual hubs.  It looks like warn stopped offering hubs
for an explorer in 1994.  Is there another manufacturer or conversion
available?

Do I Need A Resonator?06 Mar 2007 01:18 GMT5
I went to get a smog test on my '91 and low and behold the exhaust pipe had
come apart just past the muffler and where it connects to what I think is
called the resonator.  Well, the resonator does not appear to be a muffler
and the tailpipe just goes straight through it so my ...
'96 XLT V8 Speaker Shutdown05 Mar 2007 15:38 GMT2
When we got this vehicle, the sound system was truly a step up
from anything I'd enjoyed in a vehicle prior. I was never an
audiophile in an extreme sense but loved being able to listen to
the subtleties that a better system allowed.
2004 Ford Explorer towing04 Mar 2007 22:19 GMT2
We just bought a 2004 ford explorer. I don't believe it has the towing
package because it has the class II receiver on it. Is it possible to
still get the towing package that would have come with the vehicle
when it was new. My understanding is you get the 3.73 axel ratio
Replacing air ride.03 Mar 2007 23:22 GMT1
My air ride on my 1997 Limited is shot. The front wheels feel like
dribbling basketballs over th slightest road uneveness. I do not want
to go through the expense of fixing the air ride as it is well, ten
years old and I doubt if I will keep the thing for much longer

Thermostat replacing02 Mar 2007 21:49 GMT2
I read a few posts about a sticking thermostat and think I may have
one as well.  I am looking for it with no luck but is it possible the
thermostat is on the radiator cap?  I've seen pictures and it looks
like the part underneath the cap which sticks in the radiator.
