general question about Ford Trucks... Do head gaskets start with a small leak, and then, overtime, become worse? or do they generally just go out all of a sudden? How many times should I expect to top off the radiator in my 89 aerostar?

I have a firend that has a 99 F250 2wd gas engine auto trans truck. He just had the power steering become manual steering. I looked at it and everything looks ok, hoses , fluid levels, linkage. The only thing I can think is the pump failed. Anyone else run into this on a late

GET ACETONE FROM YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE STORE , LOWES ETC. PUT 2.5 OZ. PER 10 GALLONS OF FUEL IN TANK. WHEN I HEARD OF THIS I DIDNT BELIEVE BUT THOUGHT WHY NOT TRY IT. NOW I GET 99 MORE MILES OUT OF A TANK. 30% INCREASE I COULDNT BELIEVE IT. THE ENGINE RUNS

1990 F150 , 5.0 v8, 4x4 , longbox. Bought it recently for $500. Truck has 170k miles, "Rebuilt Engine has 65k. Rusty, but runs strong and starts immediately and doesn't burn oil. No regrets.
