| Mystery module | 21 Oct 2005 03:47 GMT | 12 |
I have a 96 F350 4x4 w/ 5.8L and no air conditioning. While underneath my truck replacing the tie rods, I noticed a module a little smaller than my hand mounted just above and behind the bumper, below the headlight that I couldn't identify anywhere in my Haynes manual. It's ...

| 99 F350 - ceramic or semi-metallic pads? | 21 Oct 2005 01:59 GMT | 4 |
I'm replacing the disk pads all the way around on my 99 F350 superduty - I carry a lot of weight in this unit (its a dually with a dump bed) and anything to increase braking power would help. Are ceramics worth the extra costs? Thanks

| What is this "thud" after starting | 17 Oct 2005 00:29 GMT | 9 |
Virtually every time I start my `04 Ranger (4.0 Auto) I hear, and feel a thud coming from the engine\transmission area, as best I can tell from sitting in the drivers seat. Sounds like a stuck brake caliper when it releases.

| Determining transmission model? | 16 Oct 2005 04:09 GMT | 5 |
1995 Ford E250 4.9L L6 cargo van here. The transmission pan has no labeling or other identification. Lot salesman told me it's a 3-speed, but this same guy also initially told me it was a V8 (it's a straight 6). Gear shifter dial has 'D', '1', '2'. I've been assuming it's a C6 ...

| Lug nut torque spec on my 03 Ranger | 16 Oct 2005 03:52 GMT | 7 |
I just looked at the manual and it says to torque the lug nuts to 100 ft/lbs. It does not make a distinction between the steel wheels or the alum. wheels that are on my vechicle. Is it the same for both? Also what is the tolerance? I have an old torque wrench, but have no idea ...

| DIY disk brake pad replacement | 14 Oct 2005 05:33 GMT | 4 |
Ok folks, I'm thinkin maybe it's time I started doing these myself, so gonna ask just how difficult is it? I haven't been mechanically intimate with a vechicle for over 30 years, I'm 62 now, and never did do a brake job on anything. I have an 03 Ranger with about 36,000 miles on ...
