87 F150...300 6 cyl. has a 4 sp.manual but the engine runs at 2500 rpm for about 55mph. Would changing to a 5 sp. help economy much ? Anybody have output gear ratio info ?

2000 Ford 350 V10 RV. The heater will not shut completely off. Most noticable when climbing hills and more heat generated. Is there an easy fix other than installing a valve on the heater hose? Thanks,
