when i turn the tbird on the gage goes down and i just put 20.00 in it it should got up but it wont go up what would the problem be when i turn it on it does move but goes down when i turn it off it goes to the top of the e mark any answers?

my daughters car. 3.0 engine. 74k on it and is making a "clunk" and reverse is slow to engage "sometimes". i drove it today and it pulls left under accel and right under braking. the tranny felt "normal" to me, as far as ford slush boxes are.
