I have a 2000 Ranger with automatic transmission. It just recently started slamming into gear when I start from a dead stop. (Usually just first gear.) When I go through the gears manually it seems to work fine. The fluid appears to be OK. Any ideas.

Hey friends - I got the letter but really don't want to do without cruise until the harness comes in. If I got the story right, the switch under the hood leaks brake fluid, eating the plastic and letting wires touch and burn.

I am getting a DTC 144 on a 2.3 4 cyl. 1996 ranger 5 speed. The check engine light is on. Auto Zone read the code and reset the check engine light but came back on. It gets 23 MPG and runs good. The following is given for that code.
