Oil viscosities - general recommendations?13 Dec 2004 06:20 GMT5
It's been explained to me that these days the new cars are requiring a 5W30 or
a 10W30,  and I think some might even require a 5W20, but I don't know which
cars those are.  My question is, are the older guidelines for single grade oils
pretty much the same: sae 30 for temperatures ...

Budget12 Dec 2004 17:04 GMT13
I've posted about this before.  My 2002 LW had a dead battery when I arrived
at the Calgary International Airport to pick it up.  The lot, run by Budget
Rent a Car system, provided me with a boost.  The operator assured me that
he knew what he was doing, even though we questioned ...
Best remote car starter???11 Dec 2004 17:59 GMT3
There is a couple brands of Car starters for sale in the paper. The
ProStart and BullDog brands. They are both at the same price of $50.00 and
look to be what want.
I have put the prostart brand in cars before... about 9 years go though!
Genuine Shop Manuals Standard Equipment on All Cars11 Dec 2004 17:42 GMT75
It now costs the big three exactly a buck fifty to supply a genuine shop
manual for each and every car and truck they sell.
That's what two CD-ROMs would cost them.  One CD for shop procedures.  One
CD for parts catalogue.  Those CD-ROMs should be sandwiched in the owner's
New Retro Vett ??11 Dec 2004 16:30 GMT3
Saw a car carrier dropping of cars at a drop off lot today. One of the
cars on the top was a new white Corvette Convertible. The front & rear
of the vehicle looked like the 53-55 look.
About the last 15 " of the rear quarters had the shape of the 53 with

Malibu Piston Slap11 Dec 2004 13:36 GMT5
My Malibu 2001 79k miles went into the local GM dealer today with the
dreaded piston slap noise.  I bought the car as a GM certified with the
GM warranty good for 85k miles.  I have 4k left on the warranty.
The garage told me that an inspector had to come out to look at the car
Astro starter woes11 Dec 2004 01:29 GMT11
Good day;
I am driving a 2000 astro van and suddenly the starter wants to be
engaged at all times. When the key is turned to the on position. (1st
position not start)  The starter engages and of course does not disengage.

Pontiac Vibe keys10 Dec 2004 08:03 GMT4
Anyone know whether the ignition key for a Vibe has the embedded resistor
(anti-theft..) of regular GM models?  The manual suggests that it does, but
everything else is Toyota Matrix which I don't think does.  I'd rather not
have to go to the dealer for a replacement 2nd set ($$$), ...
Anyone own a Buick LeSabre?10 Dec 2004 07:18 GMT3
These are questions about a 1994 Buick LeSabre Custom edition.
1.  In the wood trim on the right side of the steering wheel near the
HVAC controls, there are nine holes in the shape of a square.  What is
this, and is there any purpose?
