GM - "Can't anybody here run this car company?"27 Apr 2006 05:31 GMT2
The new GTO.
A subdued looking (OK, bland) Australian coupe launched a couple of years
ago in the U.S. with a really badly thought out name and zip advertising. In
spite of being a huge bang for the buck bargain (BMW M3 performance for low
The Folly Of Hybrids27 Apr 2006 03:34 GMT6
Of course, this article doesn't come from an automotive authority like
Consumer Reports but it's still a very good article.

4.3L engine replacing timing chain cover27 Apr 2006 02:39 GMT1
I have 1989 GMC Safari and have removed the timing cover to replace
oil seal, chain and sprockets. I did not lower the oil pan to remove
the cover. Is it reasonably possible to reinstall the cover without
removing the oil pan or can you loosen only the front and lower it
2001 Impala play in steering27 Apr 2006 02:14 GMT5
I've not messed with rack and pinion before, is there any adjustment to it?
There seems to be some play where the steering shaft enters the rack and
pinion unit, I can turn the wheel a bit each way with no movement of the
wheels and have a little up and down play in the shaft.  ...
What Car Magazine do you like most?27 Apr 2006 00:46 GMT9
My fiance got me a subscription to car and driver for xmas, and after
reading it for a few months, it seems they REALLY hate the big 3, chevy most
of all. Does anyone know of a car mag that is a little less bias that I
could get next time around?
Another headache for GM27 Apr 2006 00:36 GMT2
"Although GM admitted that an employee had forged evidence..."  GM is an
ongoing example of sheer stupidity in action.  How much longer until they
run themselves out of existence?  Christmas '06?  Survival to contract talks
'07 (if that long)?

More Alero fun26 Apr 2006 15:21 GMT8
Besides brake pulsation my daughter's 2000 Alero coupe with 3.4L engine
exhibited peculiar cooling system behavior yesterday following a long trip
from North Carolina.  I noticed a small puddle of coolant under the machine
which she had not seen.

better gas mileage ?25 Apr 2006 16:49 GMT13
How would I get better gas mileage.  Should I let the engine idle for 3 -5
minutes, while waiting for a school bus, after driving 1/2 mile after a cold
start ? Or should I turn it off as I do now

Manifolds, headers, back pressure and valve adjustments25 Apr 2006 08:45 GMT16
Hi everyone.  I have gotten some conflicting information concerning
exhaust back pressure.  Some say reduce it as much as possible, you
don't need that back pressure for anything.  It's a myth.  Others say
if you get rid of too much you will burn your valves out unless you do
