98 Elantra broken timing belt19 May 2007 00:32 GMT1
The belt broke on this 1.8L engine at 140,000 km. (The second owner had
thought the first had already changed it -but not so.)
What kind of damage should you look for  when the head is off?
Obviously bent valves, but what about things like damaged piston heads etc.

I don't have a ODBII reader but the light is on and has been for quite

It goes on and off constantly - any other Accent owners with this

Transmission fluid type16 May 2007 23:33 GMT12
I recently got my transmission fluid changed on my 2001 Elantra, since
it's right at 105k miles. However, when he changed it, I noticed that
the bottles said Dexron-III/Mercon something. This didn't sound quite
right, but I wasn't sure. So, when I got home, I checked the manual,

The owner's manual shows 5W-20. 5W-30 or 10W-30 as appropriate weights.
When I access the hmaservice.com site it show 20W-50 for elevated
temperatures.
Why the discrepancy, why the difference and what weight is suited for
