Been reading some posts on the "How many miles are on your TJ?" thread....
Lots of guys use synthetic!
How much better is this for your engine?
I'd put it in if it was better....but would I void warrantee by using
Looking for stock carb replacement recommendations05 Mar 2004 17:49 GMT3
I have an 88 YJ 4.2l, L6, stock carter 2bbl, 258 engine. The carb has seen
better days. Re-built twice and now dumping fuel when I come to a stop
stalling the jeep.
I am looking at the weber k551. Any suggestions??

2002, on Jeep approximately 8 months-excellent condition (bought for vehicle
that came with hard top) $700 (check price at dealership-over ...

Going to look at one for sale.  2.5L 5 spd with 106,000 miles.  Has hard
top. $1750
Claims engine/trans strong but needs misc work to pass PA inspection.
After addressing the inspection items, what else should I be looking for/at?
Thanks for manifold advice!!05 Mar 2004 15:06 GMT4
Thanks to all you guys with the TJ manifold advice!! I got a new
custom one online..when I had the old one changed yesterday, the guy
saved it to show it to me. I had gotten under and looked and seen a
few spider cracks, but don't know how I missed that the entire fat
Pulled the rest of the Main Bearings (2-6)05 Mar 2004 12:19 GMT12
Hey Guys,
Here's a pic of the main bearings from #2 through #6 where #2 is at the
bottom of the pic and # is at the top.  You can see the worst is #6 and I'm
curious about #3.  What is that thing wrapped around the sides of #3.  Is
Ok, don't laugh or How much does a short block weigh?05 Mar 2004 06:46 GMT21
Ok guys, don't laugh.  This is running through my head as a possible plan.
If I can get a collapsible engine hoist I think I could pull the engine
without my manager knowing the better.  Then the question is to get the
block to the machinist.  He is only a couple of miles away.
Rubi wheels need Rubi Shocks?05 Mar 2004 03:50 GMT1
I'm assuming shocks also help control rebound weight.  The greater the weight
of the tires/wheels, the greater the rebound rate.  Which is why I thought it
made sense to install rubicon shocks since they have been calbrated for the
greater weight of the heavier rubicon tire/wheel.  ...
97 TJ hesitant acceleration05 Mar 2004 00:20 GMT1
My 97 TJ will hesitate while coming from a stop in first gear. It
feels like it is stalling out then all of the sudden it will catch and
run smooth. The RPM's stay constant though. Approximately 20k miles
ago I replaced the TPS on the throttle body when the TJ was idling at

New dash for a YJ04 Mar 2004 20:49 GMT8
Hey everyone - As long as the CHerokee passes the smog+safety on Friday, I
plan to toy-ize my YJ...
I want to make a nifty, simple dash for it similar to a YJ's dash. I want it
to be fairly strong (thinking 1/8" metal) but would thinner to the trick to
XJ Tune Up04 Mar 2004 18:02 GMT6
Couple questions for the group. I'm looking to do a tune up on my '99 XJ 4.0
and came across some "tune up kits" from various vendors. Anyone ever use
them? Worth the money, they price out from $40 - $55? Am I better off
piecing the kit together myself?
tires and the 2.4L04 Mar 2004 14:53 GMT5
Hello all, first post here at rec. I lurk at alt. but have just started
lurking here ... I'm wondering how much power loss I'm gonna have going to a
bigger tire on my '04 TJ, I realize I'm going to loose 5th gear - not to
upset about that... wondering if anyone may have a suggestion ...
Tow Hooks for 01 TJ04 Mar 2004 08:57 GMT18
I have just bought four ARB 10k lbs rated tow hooks and before I go and
start installing them (I have to wait for the cyclone to stop dumping rain
in Auckland), I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.  I have done my
research on the internet and found a number of links, an ...
Car alarm and installation help 96 XJ04 Mar 2004 05:55 GMT2
I'm looking for some help and recommendations regarding car alarms and
installations.  Since most of the shops in my area(Philly, PA) want
between $200-$500 to install a unit I'm thinking about doing it
myself.  I have a background in electronics, but not car electrical
