Mostly when I hit a pot hole in 1st or 2nd, it definitely feels and
sounds like somethings falling apart under my feet or maybe the
tranny.  I had a mechanic lift it and take a quick look at the
underside and everything's bolted down good.  Anyone have other
258 plastic valve covers19 May 2004 22:28 GMT3
I have gone through at least 4 plastic valve covers in the 20 years I have
owned my Jeep.  I liked painting them, and dressing up the engine.
I finally spent the extra money and bought an aluminum cover.  It runs
noticably quieter and little to no oil running over!

Plastic valve covers19 May 2004 20:47 GMT5
I've purchased many plastic valve covers in the 20yrs I have owned my
CJ7.  I have put silicone around the oil cap, made gaskets and more.
I finally broke down and purchased an aluminum cover.  Runs quieter and
little to no mess.

cj-5 '73 new tub19 May 2004 17:46 GMT7
I'm up in rural Alaska and can't shop except via the net so I could use
some help in deciding on a product. My old original tub is rotten so
needing a new one. I'm thinking fiberglass.. don't mind running a couple

Drivebelt tension19 May 2004 17:19 GMT3
I have a '95 GCL with 4.0L six and 144K miles.
Over the winter, I heard a loud squealing coming from the engine compartment
when I started the engine, and lasted about 5 seconds then disappeared.  It
only seemed to occur at cold engine startup.  Now that its warmer, I noticed

Whining again.
I am still at a dilmma what to do with the soft doors and windows once
removed for the summer.  If you dont remove them, you sweat big time in the
canvas coffin.  80+ degrees is nasty in there.
Tow Strap vs Tow Chains19 May 2004 14:58 GMT9
A while back I picked up some nice chains at a yard sale and had planned to
used them if needed for towing.  Then I noticed on some of the jeep clubs
sites they specify tow straps, not chains.
Why is that?  Why are tow straps better?  Recoil damage if it brakes?
