So how big a job is it?19 Oct 2006 03:00 GMT4
1994 Jeep Cherokee XJ, 120K, 2WD, 5 speed.
Noticed what I'll call a "rumble" coming from the engine today.
Sounded kind of like when my Catalytic Converter's insides cracked.
Similar sort of rattle.
Oil Consumption  2000 JGC    V-818 Oct 2006 17:55 GMT20
This Jeep has  125,000 miles.   Runs good, no problem.   I have used Mobil 1
synthetic oil since it was new.
The engine used almost no oil until I got to about 110,000 miles.   After
that, I started noticing that it was using some oil, which I thought was
Question regarding lift and track bars18 Oct 2006 12:51 GMT4
I have a TJ that I want to put a mild lift on.  Was considering the OME
2.5" but then I thought down the road I might want something a little
taller.  I am running 31's right now and am considering the Rubicon
Express 3.5" Standard kit.  All it has is springs, tcase drop, and sway
Smittybilt Tops17 Oct 2006 21:54 GMT1
Hey gang! Long time, no post. Does anybody have any experience with the
Smittybilt TJ tops I see on Ebay? I know the Bestops and OEM are very
much better, but I just can't swing that expense. They say they take
stock hardware (I have a 99 TJ Sport, full doors). I live in FL and the

Hi everybody--
I hate to post such an open-ended question, but I know there are a

JGC oil leak help needed17 Oct 2006 14:58 GMT8
I went out to change the oil this morning, and noticed and found I had oil
leaking from the fitting that the filter screws onto.
The fitting does a 90 degree turn from the filter into the engine and it's
leaking from the end that attaches to the engine.
2004 WJ 4.0 trans/ATF level questions17 Oct 2006 14:50 GMT4
On my recently purchased WJ (4.0/42re/factory trailer tow) I noticed
that the owners manual says check the ATF level in Park, while the
dipstick says Neutral. In Park it appears to be 1-1.5 pints overfilled,
in Neutral about a pint under. I'm tempted to split the difference and

How to tell when coil springs are shot?16 Oct 2006 02:58 GMT8
I'm replacing the shocks on my '96 ZJ Laredo (130k miles)for the first
time (with Pro Comp ES9000's). While I'm at it I guess I should replace
the springs if they are shot but replacing 'em looks like a bit of a
PITA so I don't want to bother if they're ok.
Jeep mechanic in North Atlanta area15 Oct 2006 23:33 GMT4
Anyone in north Atlanta/Roswell/Alpharetta/Duluth have a recommendation
for a shop that knows how to deal with lifted Jeep TJ's?  My dealer is
completely useless (and they won't even work on it with an aftermarket
lift), and the place that installed the lift has gone out of business

I have an 86 CJ7 with the 258 and Carter BBD on it.
Here's my problem...
I am about to undertake a full carburetor rebuild today with care to
clean out those idle tubes and get all my settings right, but wanted to

So I took it to my local shop and rode my bicycle home. This morning I
